Hey Eddie, sounds like you're about ready to get those crab pots wet!

Not sure what kind of kayak you are paddling, but I'll give you my method, that worked pretty well on my T13.

Pretty simple actually. I would use those industrial sized plastic covered wire ties and thread them through the eyes screwed into the deck and then give them a couple turns around the side of the trap. Key is to get them just snug enough that they don't slip off, yet they are still easy to un-tie when you are out there. Let me know if you need me to clarify that more for you...might be hard to imagine without pictures.

I would put one trap on the front deck and one trap on the rear deck, just behind the seat. I'd then just plop the ring net on top of the trap towards the bow.

T160 holds two in the back.

For the P13 I do what TamFish recommends but leave the buey and rope free so if you dump you can probably get it back, also don't tie the pots down, makes righting the yak very difficult if you end up upside down.

For the P13 I do what TamFish recommend but leave the buey and rope on top and don't tie to the yak if you are launching/landing in surf.
Don't tie in case of flipping?  How do the cages stay in the movement involved in a surf launch land.  I guess if things go well they should balance?

DIY PVC posts inside the rear scuppers.
Do the posts interfere w/ draining since they're in the scuppers?

The PVC is a smaller diameter than the scupper hole, so no draining issues.
Cool, thx

After all this I just wrap one long gear tie around a ball mount in the rail and wind the other end of the gear tie around a portion of the trap, kinda loose balance but stays on the kayak fine...

No tie downs leave the float outside with the line coiled, put the coil loosely in the escape hatch hole on top.... if you flip or it falls off, it deploys the float and line so you can practice retrieving it. One of our guys up here made a pvc rack for an Outback I’ll see if I can find the pic.

Made an “H” out of 3/4in pvc. Fits into the rear scupper holes in my hobie oasis. I can stack 2 cages + 2 traps, bungeed down.
