General Fishing Tips / Re: Alameda Rock Wall advice
« on: April 15, 2024, 09:34:00 PM »
I am new to kayak fishing and plan to fish the ARW Tournament. I would normally fish from my 23’ boat around Berkeley, op, Candlestick, bird cage, the rockpiles and other areas. Never really fished the ARW area. The closest I would get to there was anchoring near the yellow bouy (Oakland) and letting the kids catch sharks. I plan on getting over there to fish in a couple weeks, I’ll be by myself. When I was in my powerboat I never worried about the tidal flow direction and making it back to the dock. Any advice on this location would be greatly appreciated or if you can point me right direction to educate myself. Am I over thinking this? Ideally I would normally like to fish 2 hours before and after the tide changes.

I’ll be using a Radar 135 with a Helix Pedal drive.

If you have problems outside the wall, and the tides get too strong, you can always duck behind the wall on the inside.
There tends to be less current and wind behind the wall, and make you way back.

I normally recommend this for all new people fishing there. Remember the wind blows south so by the afternoon the wind will tend to push you back towards the ramp if you fish north.

Good luck --TLA

Registration for the ARW Tournament is now OPEN. Weather this year looks to be amazing, and the halibut will be showing up in Mass pretty Soon.

This year we even have a DJ for the music at the event, and seminars available for those who are not Kayaking but want to enjoy the festivities.

Come out, enjoy the day, have a bbq, share a drink and hopefully you will be the NEXT KING OF WALL!!  :smt038 :smt041 :blob10:

See You guys all there!!

Sent out my registration yesterday!! see everyone there!

6
I may just go out there to kick it with you old folks! Lol. I’ll catch one with dental floss!! Haha  :smt044 great to see you doing this again glen.

Keith, my vote for a change in start time would be 6am rather than 7, due to the 2:31am low tide. An extra hour of flood could prove to be the most productive part of the day.

I’ll open it up at 7 am. I just need there to be plenty of light for safety purposes.
I’ll open up registration soon. Just working on the back end organizing stuff. See you there —Keith

Cost going to be?

Will be same as last year $40

That would be awesome Eric. look forward to it. - keith

I just want to provide an update on the annual herring spawn. I stop doing the herring spawn thread here on NCKA but i do have an active one on my website and blog for those who are interested.

The herring are in the Bay. I got some decent reports from reliable sources that there are fish pushing in.  Can't say when they will spawn but just glad to know they are in the bay.  Good luck herring hunters. --TLA

Seems like tbay has been more productive lately than hmb. Went out to hmb a few days ago and grinded it out for a few legals. But it was a grind for few crabs.

CA Regulations / Re: Dec 14 FGC Meeting - MPA Proposals
« on: December 17, 2023, 06:25:09 PM »
Thanks for the update. I did notice some of the groups pushing for more MPAs and closing down certain areas for fishing.  Most noticeable is pleasure point. I’ll do some research on it and bring it up on my channel. I think these issues need to be brought up to light so people are aware of them and can speak up on them vs finding out about it last minute and getting all mad about it.

Thanks for bringing this up- TLA
