I was talking with Howard (Hojoman) the other day and found out that he’s had his Trident 13 for about 6 months and has not started the pimping process yet. I think he might be a bit shy about drilling holes in his new kayak, go figure, so I volunteered to be the hole driller :smt003. Here’s what we did to his yak; when we installed the standard Scotty flush mount between the sonar shield and the rod pod we back them with 1\8” aluminum for extra strength. Next was the depth finder which was a bit of a issue, Howard did not want the FF in the sonar shield because it would be to difficult for him to scoot forward to mess with the buttons, he needed it to be closer to him. He also did not want any thing mounted to the rod pod. So, in the pic’s below is what we came up with. Parts used in the FF install; Scotty extender mini #254M, Ram wedge mount ball #RAP-354, and the Ram Fish finder mount #Ram-107-1 ½. It looks like it will work out just find and the rod pod can still be used on the water. As for the wiring, I ran all the wiring through the sonar shield and installed a wire nut so if Howard wanted to put the FF back into the sonar shield it would be ready to go. Also the FF mount and wiring can be coiled up and stowed away in the sonar shield when not in use. We installed a thru hall transducer, all extra wiring was coiled up and stowed nice and neat, we also used the battery bag in the bow, Howard’s custom battery fit just fine. All systems go just waiting for Howard, the test pilot, to give it a go.

SWEETTTT!!!!!!

I have bought a HumminBird 570 FishFinder and the scupper Transducer for my T15...Porky and I were scoping it last weekend and were wondering what to use for the holes where the wires come into the sonar shield area and out to the transducer.

Were thinking about these:

http://kayakfishinggear.com/12liquidtitefitting.aspx

Did you use these or something different??

Also, the FF has 4 wire ports on the back and only two will be used...do you put anything over the other ones to protect them??

Very nice work Pat...really impressed.

Thanks for sharing!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Bigjim, yes those are the wire nut I used, I used the ½” one but had to drill out the center of the nut to fit the wire into it to make it work. The ¾ would work with no modification but on the small one you drill a small hole in your yak and it looks better to. I only used one for the sonar shield it has two wires going thought it and I just drilled a small hole for the transducer and gooped it up real good.
As for the extra ports on the FF I would put a little dielectric grease or silicone to protect it from the elements. :smt006

I've got 15 or so of those 1/2 inch Liquid tight fittings. No nuts on the back though. You should be able to get them at a hardware store like Ace. If you want 1 or 2 let me know. Same goes for anyone else. PM me your address and I'll send them.

Just viewed your pictorial post. The yak looks sweet. Will be pure torture for the next week until I return from my tuna trip. And, yes, it probably would have taken longer for me to drill the initial hole.  :smt001

Yeah, I was thinking "it's kind of a waste of the cool sonar shield" & then I got to the "stowed position" pic. That is totally badazzzzzz.

Wow nice and clean job, shouldn't be a surprise though everything I've seen that you've done is the same. Maybe you can clean mine up??
