Title: PayPal Sucks
Post by: Tinker on September 08, 2017, 03:40:11 AM
I sold my Revo to a fellow who paid me through PayPal.  First time, ever, that I received a payment through PayPal.

THE BUYER IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY ABSOLVED OF ANY AND ALL FAULT IN MY ISSUE WITH PAYPAL, AND I DO NOT IMPLY IN ANY WAY, NOR SHOULD ANYONE INFER, THAT THEY WERE IN ANY WAY AT FAULT.  HE DID EXACTLY WHAT WAS REQUIRED OF HIM.  PAYPAL SUCKS.

Went to transfer the funds to my bank on Wednesday and kept getting blocked and couldn't complete the transfer.  First call, I was told my account wasn't verified.  Checked everything in my account, and yes, indeed I am completely verified.  Second call, I was told I was using new, unrecognized technology and it was for my own security.  Nope.  Checked my account and it's the same old technology I've always used to pay someone, and it's all verified.  Third call, I was told I was not at home, but was in Canada.  Huh?  Checked my IP address and it's identifying me as being at home.  Checked my cell phone and the GPS showed me right in my living room.  Fourth call, I was told there was some suspicious activity flagged in my account.  Escalated that call to a supervisor who told me there was no suspicious activity in my record, but I had to wait 30 to 48 days for the flag to clear.

I took an hour off to calm down and become coherent again.

Fifth call, I asked for a supervisor right off and explained that this was my fifth call, not counting a previous escalation, and everyone had, so far, lied to me.  He monitored my attempt to transfer the funds and asked me some security questions just before I hit "Do It" and the transaction went through.  Sort of.  I got a confirmation screen (no confirmation number) and a notice that the transfer would take up to 24 hours to reach my bank

The funds should have been in my bank account yesterday, before noon.  They weren't.  They weren't in my PayPal account either - the transaction record says the money was sent to my bank.  Called the bank, and they confirmed what I could see on the computer screen, that PayPal had only completed some test transfers, but not the real transfer.  And nothing was pending, incoming or outgoing.

Sixth call, I was told the funds had been sent and must be in process at my bank.  No, they are not.  My bank is nice to me, they checked all the way back to the clearing house for electronic transfers and there's nothing in process.

Well, we sent it, is there anything else I can do for you?

Google gets involved so I can find out if there's a way to resolve this, and to my surprise, it isn't completely uncommon for PayPal to just lose funds from a person's PayPal account.  There are class-action lawsuits and several State Attorneys General investigating PayPal for the same thing.

Holy crap!  If you use PayPal, now might be a good time to stop using it.  If I ever find the money, I'm getting out, because you cannot close an account until you find the lost money because closing your account will deny you any claim to the cash!

Anyone else have problems with PayPal?

AGAIN THE BUYER DID EVERYTHING EXACTLY RIGHT ON HIS END AND IS NOT IN ANY WAY INVOVLED IN MY PROBLEM WITHDRAWING FUNDS FROM PAYPAL

For larger amounts I always go  with cash and a hand shake.
Good luck. I hope you get your money in the end.

Thanks for the info. I've never been a big fan of paypal and rarely use it---and then only for small transactions.

I had two accounts.  One for business and one personal.  Had them both for years and then they wanted me to reverify one account and I had to send in a copy of my ID and Social Security Card.  Hell no, so I deleted that account.

I kept the other one for small purchases but don't keep money in it as the transfers back to a bank account take to long.

That sucks what they did to you.  Hope the money shows up.

Your lucky PP they answered the phone
When I had trouble they were no help

Most business have caught on to the problem and now offer option of using CC instead.
Dont use payPal

How did it get resolved?  I always used it when I didn't trust the payment system when buying from a new (to me) merchant and didn't want my CC in their system.  I never thought there's be a screw-up if I was getting paid.  Rats!

Reach of an idea...can the purchaser send you a check, and wait for this to be resolved just on good faith.  I feel fairly sure that it will get resolved, when is the ?.  Hope it works out super soon, only if the purchaser has the means to be helpful.

This isn't about the purchaser.  Paypal took it from curplunkie and is going to hold it for a good long while before giving it to tinker.  All the while giving tinker the runaround.  welcome to paypal.

It may be possible to have curplunkie verify the purchace with paypal.  that ultimately helped me when I had a problem, i think, because the money was released about 10 days after that and 25 days or so from when the transaction was initiated.

paypal indeed sucks.

What crash said.  The purchaser completed his part of the transaction promptly, correctly, and completely.  He is not involved in my War on PayPal and I won't allow him to get involved in any way, for any reason.  Nothing about this has anything to do with the purchaser - not one thing - and it's not his job to help out with my end.

But thanks for the suggestions, guys.  They may help others in the future.

That really sucks.
I had a similar thing happened when I first used Paypal. The amount was around $350. I transferred to my bank acct. Nothing. Called paypal a few times got the same answer as yours. Then it showed up 4-5 days later in my bank acct. What a relief at that time.
Now I can do bigger transfer without any issue. I guess my account has established.

Wait a few more days, it might show up.

Crazy and crappy!!

I use PayPal personally (for $ that I send to my parents and for Ubers lol), and we use it for AOTY/DOTY/PIF and have never had any problems (knock on wood).

Hope you get it resolved soon!!

I use PayPal constantly and have never had any issues with them.  I pay all my KayakBassFishing.com and Yak-A-Bass NorCal tournament entries fees with them each month and get my winnings paid back to me through them.  I also use them for 90% of my fishing tackle purchases.  I keep about $2,000 in there as my PayPal account balance and haven't had any hiccups with their system as of yet.  When I transfer some of my winnings from there to my bank account it generally takes less than 24 hours.

Not withstanding all the crap you've gotten from PayPal (you've changed my mind on them).  You mentioned "clearing house".  If it'a an ACH transfer (Automated Clearing House), I would expect it to take about 72 hr to reach your acct.  Sometimes faster but the 3rd day thing has been my experience with other inter-bank transfers, never done one with PayPal.  Also I believe it's almost impossible to track during that time.

You did say you had a 24hr window so perhaps your transfer system is a different one.

I've used paypal for as long as I can remember and I've never had a problem.  Any chance that the account hasn't had much activity or large transactions in the past?  I can see them being cautions about it if that was the reason but your case does seem a bit annoying with different stories from each person.

Hope you get this resolved soon.

The funds were there when you sent them, curplunkie.  They kind of disappeared when I got around to trying to move them out of PayPal.  I'll chase them down, but thank you for asking if you can help.  Mighty stand-up thing to do.

Oh, I'll get it resolved.  You can count on that.  The only time I've used it for a large amount was when I made a $1000 payment.  This is the first time I've received a payment in any amount, and perhaps they are being cautious, but I keep being told the funds have already been sent to my bank.  That's a bit scary because they didn't arrive and don't appear to be in process.

Thanks.  For every horror story I read, hearing a happier tale helps me calm the hell down.

I bought a Revo on here with PayPal, and also bought my Motorcycle with PayPal.  I always offer to come back later and pickup the goods after the person feels it has been deposited otherwise will give my license or other info.

I would encourage people to use PayPal as it is convenient, plus my wife doesn't see that account.. so it's all for guy stuff.

Making the payment yes, but receiving it aint so unless you know the person enough. It happens before, remember paypal favor the payer not the payee. Paypal has money back guarantee no questions ask. Be careful receiving payments through this method.

My understanding is they use their ACH api for their account transfers, same apii you would use if you were using pay flow as a business. It only settles sun-thurs, and after business hours. ACH only operates during banking hours-I know it is the weirdest thing- so if you triggered it when the gateway is down you'll get an error, but that takes like 4-5 days -I know weird again.

So, might not be gone, gone, but just not there yet

I was just curious if the transaction for the kayak was done as a business deal/purchase or as friends and family's ? I do lots of business through them but if people are willing I always route it friends and family to avoid fees.

This is an interesting topic though because I have always wondered how it would go if I ever tried to pull out a large amount to have them put in my bank account if they would scrutinize my account closer and want their unpaid fees?
I ended up just always using the money through eBay and places that accept PayPal so it never is an issue. Even Home Depot accepts PayPal I believe even at the cash registers in the store.

. plus as someone else noted on here the missus has no idea about my pay pal balance so it's like hidden money

No indication it was a hack job at this time.  We - their support people and I - did a second bank routing verification the day before I asked for the transfer to my bank, and the two PayPal test deposits (and withdrawals) into my account went smoothly.  Their records on the big transfer show it was "sent" to the correct bank account.  My pennies are just wandering, lost and frightened, somewhere in the ether.

Still calling daily, and you wouldn't believe the different wild and far-fetched explanations I get when I call.  If it weren't happening to me, some of them would be knee-slapping funny.

One of these days I find it.  They have to reconcile their accounts sometime.

As I said before I generally carry a fairly large balance in my PayPal account.  I've never had any issues sending or receiving money through them.  Although, I will say that if you try and transfer more than $1000 from your PayPal account to your bank account they will limit you to that 1 grand per month until you do some account "verification" process.  That includes putting in your SSN.  Not sure why that discouraged me from going through the process since they already have all my banking information but I didn't do it.  I'll just wait 30 days before I try and transfer any more money from PayPal to my bank account.

I've zapped up to $9,600 for PIF recipients, and from checking to PayPal after tourneys etc and haven't had any issues...just been lucky I guess...

For what I do personally and on here for PIF/AOTY/DOTY I think PayPal has been pretty good...if there is another platform that is "better" I would be interested in knowing though...last thing I would want would be for PIF $$ to go missing and not get to where it is meant to go....

Jim, from what I was able to learn online (after eliminating complaints from nut cases) is that in the rare instances when something like this occurs, it's when transferring funds from PayPal into your bank account.  I could have spent every penny on purchases and PayPal wouldn't have cared - they only paid attention when I wanted to take it out of their system.

I don't keep any significant amount of money in a PayPal account simply because PayPal accounts are not insured by anyone.  They aren't FDIC insured and PayPal doesn't carry private insurance.  If someone hacks your account and spends all your money, or PayPal goes belly up, your money is gone and that's all there is to it.   The wayward amount was more than I wanted to put at risk.

No one hacked my account.  It just hasn't yet arrived at my bank.  It's disturbing to see a zero balance in my PayPal wallet and no EFT into may bank account with no notification that the funds are on hold pending verification - if that's what's going on.  No one at PayPal has said that's what's happened, I'm just being optimistic at this point.  In between screaming at PayPal, I mean.   :smt001

This exact thing happen to me just a month or two ago.  It will show up eventually.  Nearly a month in my case.  Just keep bitching about it to them.  Do you bank at Umpqua by chance?  I wonder if who you bank with has something to do with it.

So I was updating my iPhone apps today and Paypal's update now says with select ATM cards they can do an instant transfer to a bank account.  Apparently they are trying to fix some of the delays.
