pics or it didn't happen  :smt044 (thanks bob)

spooled up my uncle's old diawa BG which had been collecting dust since he passed.  My uncle danny was big into striper fishing back in the day.  my dad would bring me along (not all the time, lol) and i got to hang out with the adults to watch them fish and drink beers.  all i wanted was to hook one striper that day on his reel. i wasn't planning on even launching, but then i remembered about the reel/rod i put together, so down came the yak off the rack.

got on the water, cracked a modelo, and pinned a jumbo minnow (thanks tony).  my fish finder wasn't working so i followed tony and won around.  while i was grabbing a beer, my rod went bendo and got my first hookup... a 17" striper.  a few minutes later, won kept saying a big fish was following my bait around, but nothing happened.  maybe about 10 minutes later, my rod tip went into the water.  i grabbed the rod and set the hook.  the fish was ripping line off and it sounded sweet on that BG reel (nice smooth drag for an old reel).  at one point, it took off and i got towed away from the group (i thought for sure i fouled hooked a fish).  it felt like i hooked a big salmon with all the dives/runs.  i finally saw my sinker, but no color yet.  a couple more cranks and i see the back of a huge fish, but i still wasn't sure what it was.  i eventually saw a flash of its side and knew it was a monster striper.

now, I only brought my trout net and tony’s net had a busted handle where it connected to the net, but we had no choice but to try and net it.  finally got the fish to the surface and won netted it for me, while tony kept yelling “don’t lift it, the net will break!” LOL

i hooked her right on her fat lip with the same minnow that I caught the first fish on, LOL with 10# FC leader.  once I got the hook out I yelled out “thanks uncle danny!”.  we took a few pics, but wanted to get her in the water ASAP.  took a while to revive her while pedaling around.  i passed her off to won since my hand was getting tired, and after a few rounds, she finally kicked and swam off!  after that, i took it all in, put some tunes on, cracked a cold one, and enjoyed the good hi…

Killer fish Ryan!!  Glad to have been a part of it and most importantly, she was released to be eaten another day!!  You set the bar high for the Forebay FNC striper.

Fun times yall, thanks to Dustin and A-Hulls for keeping this hookup going!
