For the last 30+ years I have loved making fresh tacos, sometimes fried shells, sometimes warmed in a pan, etc...

This last Sunday night the family wanted hard shelled chicken tacos. I bought the ingredients including the larger yellow corn tortillas, chicken, cilantro, cabbage, jalapenos, etc..

As I heated up the oil in the 6" frying pan for the shells, I started the refried beans on the back burner. I added chopped cilantro and onion to the beans along with half a can of Herdez Salsa Casera. Turned on the heat and got them bubbling.

Brought the oil up to about 350 degrees, then started frying the shells. I use a tablespoon to hold the bottom half of the tortilla under the oil and a set of tongs to spread out the shell so when done, the shell will be nice and wide to accomodate all the goodies. I kept at this process until I had almost all of the shells ready. I got another tablespoon and scooped out some beans to taste them. I set the spoonful on the paper towel next to the stovetop, then I proceeded to remove the last fried shell and transferred it to the plate next to stove.I set the spoon that had been holding the tortillas under the oil down next to the stove. :smt009

Without looking (or thinking) I reached for the spoon of beans and put them into  my mouth, but it was the wrong spoon. :smt010 :smt010 :smt010

That spoon of about 350 degrees instantly removed over an inch of my lower lip, when I pulled the spoon back, yes, my lip was on it..... :smt009

I immediately got ice and laid back and sucked on ice cubes for about an hour. Then as my lips began to dry and the numbness from the ice began to dissipate, a whole new level of pain was experienced.

My wife called our Doctor Monday morning to see if there was anything special we should be doing, he said he would call me. He's been our family GP for 25 years and he has never called me before. But he did, and after I described the damage, he said come in asap. So I did, and after I told him what exactly happened, he says to me " Discovered a whole new level of pain didn't you"! :smt010

So now I can't be in the sun until its healed, we won't know if plastic surgery will be required until it starts to scab up (which is doing now), and every time I move my lips the scab splits and then I experience a new type of pain. THIS SUCKS!!!

And the worst part??? Its Tuesday afternoon and I have had two little bread wafers with some chicken salad on them since lunch Sunday..

Oh dude!
SO sorry to hear about that.
I might suggest you do not read any related posts to your topic after this one. Someone might write something somewhat humerous and the LAST thing you need is to laugh or smile.
I feel for ya brother.
Get some Otter Pops and invest in "The Magic Bullet". It's a mini blender/grinder/liquifier. You can have whatever you want. Just stick it in, liquify it and spoon it down slowly.
One last thing; where's the pics????

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and words. I'm actually amazed at how fast this is healing. All the burned, dead tissue has already shedded, and now all thats left is the 1" x 1 1/2" scab that covers the area that stayed on the spoon.

Pictures? You want pictures? You don't need no stinkin pictures!!! :smt012

I told you how stupid I am, I'm not going to show you how stupid I am!!!

But thanks again!!
