Greetings,

On 06/13/2008 I ended up giving Oyster Point a try.  I didn't catch any fish, but managed to catch something else....

A BAD case of sunburn.  I forgot to pack my paddling jacket into the hatch.  Wasn't thinking clearly and jumped out on the water without sunblock either.  Many thanks for the people that slapped my arm and busted those blisters open! :smt010

Sunburn from kayakfishing is analogous to getting an STD.  Blissful during the act, but the consequences suck.  In both cases, use protection.

Okay, the pictures you've been waiting for.... well, maybe not.  I'm going to be extremely careful from now on since sunburn like this will increase the chance of contracting skin cancer.  Lesson learned.

Enjoy!!!

OK, I am now *NEVER* going on the water without sunscreen, hat, pants, long sleeves (all body parts covered), water mister, aloe plant, morphine, ten ton air conditioner, personal dermatologist, and beer.  Well, I guess I can ditch the A/C...

Those pics reminded me that we haven't ordered pizza in a while...<searching for Mountain Mike's menu>  :smt002

Glad you learned your lesson, sorry it had to be the hard way.  I did the same thing as a teenager though, so I can relate...only it was the back of my legs.  After the skin tightened up I couldn't walk...spent the next two days lying on the couch moping.

The sunburn is healed now.  It was a torturous two weeks.  Every time I rolled over in bed, I would wake up to the pain.  The latter portion of the ordeal was a bit gross.  The "Elephant Skin" as my wife called it was flaking off.  Randomly leaving a trail of crunchy skin fragments wherever I went.  Saved a few of these pieces as a reminder.

I opted not to take any pain meds, but did end up using Aloe Vera Gel to soothe the burnt skin.

The skin is now very smooth like a baby's behind.

Those pictures made me feel like I should take some pain meds.  Glad the physical pain is gone.
