So I took her out for a couple trips this week. One on the ocean and one on Tomales. I got two works for it "boat control!!!!" They are awsome for controling your drift, keeping a trolling line and to be able to keep yer hands on the rod....priceless!!!  :smt003  Got to try it in some wind and current. At first it was a little like patting my head and rubbing my belly, but after a while it becomes second nature. I equate it to having a trolling motor on a bass boat, compared to going with out one. The Revolution is basiclly the Quest with a Mirage Drive. I also noticed it handled the waves better than my Quest. Don't know if it's the drive or improved hull design or both. I'm still developing a new routine for launching and landing, but I'm sure I'll get used to it..... :smt002
Oh, and just for the record, I don't have any connection with Hobie, just passing along my obsevations.  :smt003

I am a paddler, not a peddler, but there are times when this aspect has made me envious of ChuckE and PAL.  Congrats on the new ride.

True.  Although similar to a Quest, the Revo hull is definitely improved with more volume in the bow and stern to handle surf better and provide more storage capacity.  The Revo is great for kayak camping and drier ride too.  I wish Hobie would make those same improvements to the Quest.  I'm sure they would attract more paddlers.

There are times when I simply like a good paddle yak with a roomy cockpit.  It's nice to have more than one kind of arrow in your quiver of fishing yaks.

So how about kelp beds, is the mirage snagging up on kelp inside the beds?

Well if you try and plow through beds of kelp, your not going to go far. Of course they're going to hang up in it, but it only takes about 5 seconds to remove the drive and cruise over the top like a regular yak. You always have the option to use the paddle when you need it. But, if you want to work the edges of the kelp, be it wind or current or both. Now you are talking a huge advantage. I can't emphisize the advantage of boat control enough. I've done away with my drift sock and anchor... :smt002
