Great, I will definitely be giving him a call. THANK you for input and references.

It’s a 96 Mariner 4cycle 2 stroke. Has the oil injection. I’d try and do a tune up myself, but unfortunately with a new born a 2-3 day project turns into a 2-3 month project. Just need the convenience of dropping it off and picking it up ready to go.

General Talk / Outboard mechanic for older motor 94 Mariner 40hp 4cycl
« on: February 09, 2022, 08:28:14 AM »
Hey everyone,

Recently made purchase of a 18ft Bayrunner, would never have considered buying a boat, but the price was right and so I pulled the trigger.

My question is if anyone knows a trusted outboard mechanic to work on this somewhat older motor.  Just liking for a full tune up (particularly carbs cfully cleaned) and someone I can take it to for any maintenance related issues. I’ve called around the Sant Cruz area and seems like everyone either doesn’t get back, or only really works on specific models (mostly newer and Yamaha or honda, Tahatsu, etc…).

I’m willing to travel for a good mechanic as the boats on a trailer.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds good to me. I've got a typical 7-5 type of work day so i'm usually out there on the weekends. Shoot me a PM next time you head out.

Nothing fancy on the ceviche recipe, but i saw on another post about perch someone saying they make great ceviche and turns out they're absolutely right. Here's the link to the recipe:

Nice catch!

I went out last week too and was able to get a few fatties. Don't usually do much surf perch fishing and usually C&L what i do catch, but think i have new found love for surf perch. The're abundant all over and easy-ish to catch, super firm meat that's perfect for civeche (had no idea), easy to fillet, and damn tasty! Think i'll start loading up the freezer from now on whenever i get the chance.

I feel your pain!!

I'm guessing no luck on Sunday?

Nope, but that damn seal came back around and grabbed one within minutes of being there. Trashing it around and taunting me again. I had no idea they went up that far in the river. I'm used to those bastards all over the place here in SC, but the last thing i was expecting was for a seal to show up in Sacramento. Still fun to watch him do his thing tho.

Think i'm done for the remainder of the year. Won't/No more reasons to head up to Sac till next year. Gonna start prepping for steelhead season coming up and hope for my first one.

Hey, I'll be up there next weekend the 20-23rd staying with friend in West Sac. Looking to head to Howe, cause i heard Garcia bend can get a little crazy with all the boats, but if that's where the fish are i can manage. Would like the company and pointers if of y'all are up for it.

Yes, you need a passport for mexican waters, but if i remember correctly they throw that in with the original fee. They also provide gear for rent (not sure on exact price), but i do know they require a $100 dollar holding deposit that gets put back once the equipment is returned.

Hey there,

I'm in the exact same predicament in that i'm headed down to SD in May for my own bachelor party. Not sure what your budget is, but the private boats can get real pricey. After a ton of research I ended up booking a crew of 9 guys with H&M Landing. 55 per person for the half days and they offer a morning and mid afternoon trip. I think the 3/4th days were around 150 per person, but they head out to mexico waters = bigger fish. Look them up and see if they work with your schedule. I'll be sure to post a report when i get back in May.

I had the exact same question when i first came onto the site and ended up taking NowWhereMans advice on the goop method. Turned out perfectly and works great!! I had my doubts on whether the hull and goop would affect any of the readings, but it has no significant impact on any of the readings.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Scotts Valley Fishing Park

Used to fish there as a kid about 7 years old when they stocked it, but that's long gone now. I believe this is part of Carbonera creek and although it's full of water now it's usually reduced to nothing more than a trickling stream when this crazy weather isn't around. I've personally seen trout in Carbonera creek before as it runs through my fiances-grandmas backyard and it pools up there, but I doubt you'd find anything close to the Vern Fishing area. I work down the road from there and frequently stop to eat lunch. It's too bad they don't dam it up for the kids anymore.

General Fishing Tips / Suggestions for San Diego Fishing Charters?
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:26:15 AM »
Hey All,

I'm headed to San Diego in mid-May for my bachelor party and nothing would be more awesome than to book a fishing charter for a day or two while down there. Does anyone have a general idea of some great deals on charters or who can put me on the fish. Gonna have a group of 8-10 and would like to keep costs to about 200 per person. Not looking for anything fancy, but definitely wanna get on the water and put some fish on the deck. Looking to get the ball rolling on plans and set up reservations no later than end of February. Any suggestions are helpful.  :smt001

Thanks!
