Fishing Pics / 120# Blue Marlin
« on: January 11, 2021, 09:40:45 AM »
I'm back home in Hawaii for a few months.

Went for a paddle yesterday, caught a ~120 lb blue marlin five miles out.

30 min fight, 3.5 hr paddle back.

It's my third unassisted marlin from a kayak.

Happy New Year!

pretty sure I saw my first GWS in person, saw a juvenile shark crashing a bait school at the surface on the 70" ledge.

General Talk / Swell tracking
« on: February 22, 2016, 09:19:39 PM »
howzit everyone,
Two huge swells forecast to hit Hawaii this week. I think that same type of swell (N/NW) hits Norcal 2-4 days later.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

General Fishing Tips / Mola mola
« on: July 20, 2015, 07:29:04 PM »
howzit,

just wondering, is it ok to catch mola mola?

As in:
A) Is it legal? (I think so but just checking)
B) Do they taste good?

Also, is it ok to snag it, or is that bad form?

mahalo,

Fish Talk / Fish ID request (2nd time)
« on: July 18, 2015, 10:56:03 PM »
howzit everyone,

Second fish id request. I'm new to the area so still learning.

I hooked something in 65 feet today on a lure. It was small only 2 feet long. It had the body of small shark but its mouth was shaped like that of a sturgeon or skate. I never like get fined so I let it go.

No pic. Didn't have my phone on me.

Was it a dogfish?

Thanks
HG

General Talk / Kayak storage around Brisbane
« on: April 11, 2015, 09:08:25 AM »
howzit everyone,

The place I live at in Brisbane is not kayak storage friendly. No garage and lots of winding stairs. I'm trying to find kayak storage options in the area. Any help would be much appreciated.

I checked Oyster Point harbor and didn't see anything that look doable. Called a few storage companies in the area, same result.

mahalo,
Hoala

Introductions / HG from AquaHunters
« on: August 27, 2013, 05:31:21 PM »
howzit everyone,

My name is Hoala Greevy, I go by HG on AquaHunters.  Currently live Honolulu, looking to move to SF.  Found this site thru word of mouth.

I ride a modified Scupper Pro back home, Werner Corryvrecken paddle, Garmin FF, mostly use Shimano gear.

I know next to nothing about kayak fishing up here, so will be lurking for quite awhile I'd imagine.

I included a couple pics.  One is a 24# mahimahi and the other is a 150# blue marlin.  I chased that first marlin for 3 years :-)

Aloha!
HG
