Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Doran Beach 2/3

Wow that's awesome for 1 trap! When you say inside the jetty do you mean in the harbor or close to the jetty in the ocean? It would be nice to have the option to go inside the harbor for days when the wind picks up. You made me want to try Doran for my next trip. I've been launching out of HMB and the long paddle just to get out of the harbor is a drag.
Launched at jetty day use area and played around in calm waters. Not harbor but not open ocean. It’s technically the “bay”

How many feet of water? What bait?  That is good food, enjoy :smt006
Inside Jetty. I don’t have a depth finder but used my 75’ of rope and had plenty left. My best guess is 40-60’. I only have 1 pyramid style hoop trap. Spent 4 hrs and pulled about 6 times (~30-45min soaks)

Just joined after participating in opening day (crab) in bodega. Was stoked to see so many yaks out there. Anyone local to Marin?

Welcome. We probably crossed path at Bodega on the opener. I'm from Marin, San Rafael, as well and go to Doran to Crab as much as mission control (wife) will let me.
Ended up in tomales bay and didn’t get any keepers. I’ve got the same situation with said “mission control”. Odds are better in numbers. Let me know when you plan to go out next

Bcosta, Sea Ghost, and moon all on the same thread? For some reason, that reminds me of my of my favorite episode from the best TV show ever, Space Ghost Coast to Coast:

One of the best shows of all time! Thanks for this. Tight lines

I ended up at tomales for my first time on my yak. Beautiful day but no keepers. I’m usually looking to go when permitted by said “mission control”. Odds are better in numbers. Let me know your schedule

Welcome.

Are you Bob Costas in real life?
He has nothing on me or my skills

Hi Bcosta, I'm in Novato. Let's get out on the water sometime!

I’m hoping to get out on Saturday or Sunday. I launch from blackpoint

If you're really going to Dillon, then beware of the Tomales Bay mouth and the tides.  The current can really rip through that area and it can get dicey if you not keeping track of where you are.  If you're set on Dillon, then might be worth going down to Lawson's Landing and drop traps inside the Bay.

Otherwise, join us at Doran beach.  There should be 100 or us or so there all weekend.

Kevin
Thank you! I’ve done Doran before and got skunked opening season. Didn’t realize there was an event going on. My other interested spot was deeper in Tomales bay by hog island.

Going to Dillon beach in bodega for crab on Saturday. Any recent info on location (depth/general areas) is greatly appreciated. I hope to stay in <100’ of water and within jetty boundary unless going with others. Unloading between 7:30-8. Drifting bait for anything that bites between soaks. Any tips appreciated for local catch

I’ve seen too many mentions and not enough details. Thanks for these pdf’s. Solo kayaker in Marin here looking for details and possibly going to my first crab fest...sounds like a good time

I'm kinda super local to Marin.  Let's fish, I see a sturgeon dragging you across china camp..., or is that you seeing me? :smt006 :smt005
I hear them slapping the surface all the time but never hooked one up. Plan on making a call to home when it does hook up and ask for a ride home from wherever it drags me to.

General Talk / Petaluma river
« on: November 05, 2017, 02:17:57 PM »
I've been fishing black point harbor at the mouth of the Petaluma river. I've taken the yak out several times with little to no luck. I see folks coming in from San Pablo Bay with limits of striper and wondering what I'm doing wrong. Tried swim baits, single hook on a slider, mooch rig, worms, anchovies, squid mudsucker (live) and mudfish (live). Was fortunate enough to be gifted a keeper last week and got a chance to try a new recipe. Now I want my own. Help
