Title: Benicia Angler
Post by: Balata on November 05, 2017, 05:10:58 PM
Hi everyone.

Veteran NCKA member Eddie has done well to steer me here and start learning about taking to the open waters.  Been a shore fisherman all my life, but never was a fan of motorized boats.  Dad taught me to be still and quiet near the water and the smell of gas or diesel out on the beautiful water never quite felt right to me.

Been slaying Salmon from the shore around Benicia, 35 of them in the last 3 seasons, but not without hundreds of thousands of casts!

I was impressed by Eddie's success trolling for Salmon around the Benicia Bay and it certainly caught my attention!  He's been a great motivator for me to take the leap out of the combat fishing from shore and go out and find the schools rather than wait for them to come to my limited casting vector options.

Lot's to learn and I am excited to get up and paddling or peddling soon!

I fish Benicia shoreline for stripers a lot (even at night before)! Not too much on salmon, never had luck! After buying my first kayak I seldom visit my spots anymore. I'm more to yaking the ocean now...more fun! Guess I see you in the water one of these days...I do troll Benicia waters sometimes! Welcome !

A few of the guys trolling the Benicia Bay have had good results for Salmon and Eddy has landed more than a few.  Since the Salmon often graze along the shoreline it seems common sense to hit that line directly and slowly work against the current rather than the endless perpendicular casting waiting for them to come across your presentation.

I also think that the sea lions are showing us the general path of the bigger schools that come through.  They consistently make an "S" shape through the bay and you see the lions thrashing Salmon in a consistent pattern.

I'm also interested in the Crockett - Martinez shoreline as few are fishing over there.

The other immediate point of interest is further up in the delta as there is not a lot of quality access for shore casting as one might think.
