Sad to read this. It says he had a headlight, but no word on any other safety gear.

Kinda surprising how primitive these are, given the price. I’d expect Bluetooth, if not Wi-Fi for data transfer…

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Garmin Striker 4 FF issue« on: January 26, 2023, 06:40:39 AM »Just curious if the moisture issue was resolved and the overall performance of this FF. My Lowrance Hook 4 gave out at the end of last year so I am looking for a replacement and this FF seems to be pretty highly rated. Any input will be appreciated. I contacted Garmin, and they asked for a picture. When I emailed them the picture above, they sent me a replacement. I've had no problem with the new one. 5
General Talk / Re: Lost AI Daggerboard« on: January 23, 2023, 12:57:50 PM »Just brainstorming'...not a Hobie guy...could you have one printed? It would have to be a large-sized printer. I think it would be hard to DIY, since any generic plastic is going to be too flexible. Aluminum might work, but that's not going to be cheap. Fiberglass would work, but I wouldn't recommend it. In fact, I've got a 1st generation daggerboard that's fiberglass, and it's got nasty little fibers peeling off the bottom edge... 6

If you do decide to buy one, West Coast Sailing would be a good place to get it: https://westcoastsailing.net/hobie-adventure-island-dagger-board-79502001/ You might even check to see if they have a used one that they'd be willing to sell cheaper. I ordered a rudder part from them that they didn't have in stock, and when they couldn't get if from Hobie, they offered me a used one for half price. It was in great shape--had to look close to even tell it was used... 9
Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Kayak Waist Puller Design?« on: January 20, 2023, 05:54:30 PM »I wanna build one of these for carrying my AI up/down the slope at Rockaway. I don't think the Hot Wheels motor can handle that steep slope. Looked at some options but not decided on one. When you come up with something that’ll handle an AI, be sure to post the details. 11
