Adam,

You almost had me, but I think that's a new strain of rainbow called "Thunder Trout"

See the following link on fishsniffer... http://www.fishsniffer.com/dbacher/040601shadow.html

Looks like they are being stocked in Shadow Cliffs.

Thanks Brian, that was fast.I've seen, what must have been a LIGHTING TROUT(another freak-trout) at Lafayette Res. and they are kind of yellowish.I had no idea that there were Thunder Trout at Shdw-Clffs.

Thunder sounds much more coveted!  Thanks again! and I was calling it"just my biggest trout"....now it's "MY MONSTER THUNDER TROUT" and it did put up a hard fight.

The same fish farm "Mt. Lassen Trout farms" developed the lightning and thunder trout strains. From what I understand the thunder trout is a cross between the lightning trout and the original wild rainbow strain.

In doing some research I found that in southern California they stock a "super trout" from Mt. Lassen Trout farms.

http://www.kayakfishingsport.com/trout_history.htm

Santa Ana River Lakes
Current Lake Record Rainbow - Current State Record Rainbow
27.50 Pounds - John Chapman, Yorba Linda, Ca.

These super trout are triploids, meaning that they have 50% more chromosomes than standard trout and are sterile.  As such, they grow quicker and don't stop to reproduce.   I'm not sure if they stock "super trout" in any of our lakes in NorCal.

We get a few lakes with Triploids up here.  And not those raggedy finned ones either.  However, they do get fat as footballs.
