Trolling flatfish upstream and casting spinners while drifting downstream. There might be some more info to be found with the search function.

easiest way is to just throw spinners. blue fox style, size 4 and 5.  cast as you drift down and reel it in.  otherwise, you can anchor up and drop kwikfish or roe.

Yea still very Happening..it's going down and the bite is slowly getting better each week. Spinners in blue or green have been working best. Trolled or cast. Early bird launch a must. Cooking will start around 10am... haven't caught a single fish on Quickfiah or roe even tho I still try. We got 1 Jack yesterday up river from launch and caught a decent hen down river Friday evening. Will be out all week pounding the MudSalmon :smt005..see everyone there

barbed hooks allowed in this section of the river.  i doubt you'll be able to paddle upstream to the barbless zone from howe.
the barbless section ends at ancil hoffman park SMUD powerlines. anything downstream from there is barby-capable.

Here are the coordinates of the powerlines:

Also, no non buoyant lures over 1 ounce are allowed to have trebles.  so anything like a spinner or a jig that is more than 1 oz in weight has to have a single hook.

FYI, there will be boaters launching as well, mostly small aluminums..try to be fast or wheel your kayaks to the right of the ramp on the beach. Stuck a nice 17lb. Hen upriver from Howe..there's some big fish coming in gents..don't forget the net and tie good knots. 1oz weights on a 2ft dropper with a 3 and half ft leader to a spinner on a 3wY swivel has been working best for me. Anchored or trolled. U need to be in some good current tho if your gonna back troll Quickfish, or spinners. Roe is always a good option too. 3 days to go!!! :smt007 :smt007

Never fished on the American or Sacramento so I have no insight. Would the current and rocky bottom cause any issues for a Hobie PA?

Just dropped a shit ton on a new reel and tackle.. so I guess I'm committed!  How realistic is it to anchor in the American?  I'm a bit paranoid about dropping an anchor in current and I have no clue what the AR is like this time of year.

I picked up some Blue Fox spinners and some Silvertrons in blue and green colors as well as some jigs for mooching.  3 or 4 ounce weights sound right?  Its gonna be a miracle if I actually land a fish.

It's very doable to anchor brody. It's not as fast as u think..some spots are, but most are deep mild to slow current cause of the depth. U just have to try to make sure your anchor line is directly behind your boat for best positioning..this part of the River is easy.  1-2oz higs are ideal. 12-15lb. Test on a good light casting outfit is all u need. Great to hear your coming. See ya there

Here's a list of items to bring to help make the chill more appeasing for you..
A chair
Warm clothes. Mornings are chilly right now then warms up
Salmon gear and tackle
Potluck donation
Fishing license
Camera
Net, Big Net
Bubblely attitude

If anyone has and can bring an extra Table to put food on to for potluck that would be great and much appreciated. Wx is looking great For Saturday. Looking forward to a great FishNChill with Everyone. Park gates open I believe at 530. See ya there

I would also add... Don't park outside the gates in an attempt to save on parking fees. You are much more likely to have your wondows smashed OUTSIDE the park.

Thanks for the heads up.  Is it reasonable to wear a 3mm Farmer John or will I be roasting when the sun comes up?  I'm leaving Santa Rosa around 4am so I should be there a little before 6am.  Looking forward to a million snags and losing all the brand new expensive tackle I just purchased!  Yeeha!

3mm will be fine yes until about 830 then you'll warm up..just bring a pair of shorts to change on shore if so. You'll be fine..you ain't gonna lose much, I think. Lol. Ball Bearing snap swivels or a ball bearing barrel swivel tied with a leader to spinner is A MUST to prevent line twist.

I got lots to prep and get ready this evening after work.. hoping to sneak out on the River before dark but probably won't. Can't wait

Any updates or more pictures?

Couldn't get down to Howe Ave quick trip to Sunrise this morning..  Not much today, two fish for 10boats at 9am.

Hope to meet some of you soon.

Sorry I couldn't make it homie, after putting the rig away and cleaning the fish it just got too late.  Hope to make the next one.  I wish I could have seen Naoaki go coo coo for roe.

I couldn't make it down yesterday but I went out this morning. Hooked one on the downstream troll down below the pumphouse but he unhooked himself after a few moments. Error on my part I believe. The wind came up fairly strong by about 9 but it countered the current nicely. How did you guys do Saturday?

Bummed I couldn't make this my youngest broke both his heels. So i thought his Saturday soccer was over but he wanted to go cheer on his team so priorities took over. Hoping to make the next one.

Just over doing it he signs up for any and every sport/activity he can and goes 110%. Nothing we can actually pin point.

I don't know about afternoon but in the morning except one person everybody got skunked. I'll let that "one person" brag about it.  :laughing6:

Great morning paddling on the AR, lot's of salmon rolling, not many biting.
I threw the fly rod a bit for nada.
Could only paddle as far as Watt launch with out a portage - so f' it, turned around went back to Howe.
Great BBQ, met lots of cool NCKA and CCKF peeps.
Good to get out and kayak/fish again.
