After him harping on safety so much, perhaps you guys shouldn't have added the two pics of him not wearing his PFD on the water?
-
He's wearing inflatable underware :smt002

Alert, alert. PFD police are in the house. :sad5:

I'm interested in seeing some of those custom bait tanks. Jason Valle recently sold his old kayak with a custom bait tank that cost $600 to make...

I'm far from the the pfd police. It was just the very first thing I noticed after him repeatedly saying he always wears his pfd. Well, ummm, here's 2 out of three OTW shots of you right here not wearing your pfd.
My comment was more for whoever added the photos. Perhaps don't include the photos of him not wearing it in your article?

cool article. I love the fishery those HI guys have over there, just amazeballs stuff.
but, uh, the whole 1st paragraph is about the importance of PFDs...........
it does stand out.

Vittles vault + air pump or if you're fancy submersible bilge pump, some fittings and tubing. Slap on a side pocket and some pvc rod holders and it'll replace the milk crate. Just one of the things they do down here in SD.

Boogie is running out of photos to send me......

I don't think that's him in the 1st, 3rd, 4th photos. Good info though.

here's an example of the custom live wells the yak fishers in HI use. It seems like some people there try to hide their livewells and most stay away from the Vittle type livewells.

Any idea why they tend to stay away from the vittles?
-
Maybe they prefer a lower profile bait well?
-
Low profile = less wind resistance would be my guess.

& lower center of gravity & less water wight to tote around.
-
Yes, but I'm sure where these guys are fishing less wind resistance would be tops.

Idk. It's just something I observed from watching yak fishing vids from HI. I hear they even paint them to be the same color as the kayak to keep it "stealthy".

Maybe they just don't want to share their live bait with others nearby.

Come on you guys...really? Trying to hide the live bait?
I am going to jump on the R.H.'er band wagon and say it's about the wind and keeping the weight low. LP is the way to roll in a yak!
Never fished from a kayak in HI but have been and fished there (and may have stayed in a Holiday Inn at some point).
Cheers,
Michael

call me confused ... everybody has a small worthless bait tank and yet every episode makes a point of the fact that people are out of live bait ...I thought basic fishing 101-A stated " keep bait healthy and bring way more than you need" .... I thought the lack of bait was part of the TV drama not a lack of ability build a decent bait tank ...I do not think building a larger low profile bait tank that provides enough bait would be that difficult...

I figured it was to keep a level deck. Kinda hard to store your catch on a big bait tank.
