A buddy of mine is getting married in San Diego in July.  He is interested in doing a half to full day charter fishing trip. Our crew would be anywhere from 5 to 15 people. Most of our crew will have little to no gear. Anybody have any recommendations for a good outfit?

Hey there,

I'm in the exact same predicament in that i'm headed down to SD in May for my own bachelor party. Not sure what your budget is, but the private boats can get real pricey. After a ton of research I ended up booking a crew of 9 guys with H&M Landing. 55 per person for the half days and they offer a morning and mid afternoon trip. I think the 3/4th days were around 150 per person, but they head out to mexico waters = bigger fish. Look them up and see if they work with your schedule. I'll be sure to post a report when i get back in May.

Thanks for the advise Spence. Do you need passports to fish Mexican waters?

Yes, you need a passport for mexican waters, but if i remember correctly they throw that in with the original fee. They also provide gear for rent (not sure on exact price), but i do know they require a $100 dollar holding deposit that gets put back once the equipment is returned.

+1 on the 3/4 day Coronado Islands trips for around $150.  Those 1/2 day trips are just bottom fishing which you could do up here anytime during the season.

If I had to pick, I'd hop on the Liberty out of Fishermans Landing.  Good luck!

To be clear, you get your passport on your own. The landing does not get it for you.

A 3/4 day trip in the summer is gonna be a great time, especially if you can get out on a weekday and avoid the weekend warriors.  The Liberty was recommended above, great boat but also consider the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing, Booger finds the fish.  Good luck and have fun!

Uh, no.
There is NO WAY they can throw in a passport for a fee. NO WAY!
Here's the skinny:

While the vast majority of our trips do not require a Passport, if the trip will fish within 12 miles of the Mexican coast or offshore islands, a Mexican Tourist Visa or FMM is required.  The H&M Landing booking website and/or H&M staff will notify you when you inquire about a reservation whether an FMM and Passport are required on the trip you have chosen. To qualify for an FMM, a valid International or U.S. Passport Book or Passport Card is required.

While there fees may include the FFM it would be YOUR responsibility to get a passport.

Mike you got any NCKA deals if we drive up and get our Passports from you ? Sounds like a fun road trip.
