General Talk / Snow / sledding for younger kids?
« on: March 28, 2023, 01:03:32 PM »
I realize this is not fishing or kayak related, but was thinking some of the members that live in the Sierras might have some valuable local input.
I am thinking of taking my 4yr and 9yr old daughters up to do some mild sledding and general fun in the snow.  Looking for a spot thats not too crowded or extremely steep, and preferably free.
Right now I am thinking of one of the trailheads in the emigrant gap area, but figured it would be good to reach out for local advice with regards to current conditions.
FWIW we will be in our awd minivan and have our own gear.
Thanks in advance, Allen

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / WTB: Cast net for anchovies
« on: August 14, 2019, 05:03:54 PM »
Is there anywhere in the bay area that I can buy a 1/4" mesh cast net?
I know I can get one over the Internet, but was hoping not to wait for shipping.
I've already looked at sportsman's warehouse & Outdoor Pro Shop...
Thanks

General Fishing Tips / 1st time to shelter cove, any input welcome
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:25:48 PM »
Spur of the moment trip to shelter cove tomorrow 6/20 with a couple buddies looking for chrome. Planning on trolling apex on DR, or mooching some frozen herring. None of us have caught a salmon before, any advice is welcomed esp. fishing or launch  tips.

Wanted To Buy / Hobie discount?
« on: December 13, 2017, 01:49:21 PM »
So, as soon as I have some $$ saved up I am looking to buy a replacement 180 drive for the one I lost at anchor bay. I have been browsing the forum and read some old threads on NCKA discounts. Has anyone had success with discounts on hobie accessories?
I will probably end up purchasing through an online retailer to at least avoid sales tax, but would rather buy local if price and convenience are about the same. Any input appreciated, thanks.

General Talk / Yardsale x2 at Anchor Bay
« on: December 08, 2017, 03:01:55 PM »
Well I knew that we were taking our chances by lauching straight off the beach, but went for it anyway. Long story short  all three of us wiped out attempting surf launches and / or landings before the day was over.
My first proper yard sale, and I definitely came away with some leasons learned. Two of us lost our mirage drives, they were under the bunjie cord, but rolled out. Talk about expensive, there are now two md180 w turbo fins in the surf, if anyone happens to find them we will reward $$.
Luckily all the tackle was recovered, and we still came back with 16 dungeness.
I will be securing my drive with a leash from now on!
Still managed to enjoy some time otw, and trying to be good humored about the whole ordeal   :smt005

Wanted To Buy / WTB: Tiger lite spinning
« on: April 18, 2016, 07:09:38 PM »
Been looking at getting a tiger lite (spinning) for RF and for catfish in the fresh. Anyone looking to part with one? Or where can I look at one in the North bay? Stopped by OPS and the new sportsmans warehouse today and neither one had the lites. I think I want the 6'6" medium heavy but would like to compare the 6'9" medium. Any input appreciated,  Thanks

Made it up to blue lakes earlier and had a great day on the water + took home a limit of nice rainbows. Best fish hooked up near the narrows trolling a little shad rapala.
Weather started with a little drizzle but mostly cleared by the afternoon, and by the time I was packing out the whole lake was glassy.
Wish I had brought a camera to share some pics, maybe next time.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Anyone had experience with stohlquist knife?
« on: December 11, 2015, 04:39:39 PM »
I just got a new pfd, went with the stohlquist fishermen and was considering a knife to match.
I looked around and noticed it's not mentioned here on NCKA as far as I could find and got mixed reviews around the web. Anyone have personal experience with one of these?

Introductions / Hello!
« on: December 03, 2015, 02:37:12 PM »
Hi, I went kayak fishing for the first time this summer on the Sonoma coast and I'm hooked! When I was younger I loved to fish for panfish and bass from our canoe (still do actually) and my experience fishing for rockfish & Ling cod was everything I loved about those canoe trips but more exciting and bigger fish!
Looking forward to getting some  more time on the water!
