Good luck Cochino!  I left my boy on the beach in San Diego 1 year ago and he's been having the time of his life ever since.  I'm sure he REALLY, REALLY misses me though!

Can't wait.  Plus I'm pretty obligated to follow-up last year's podium finish with a victory this year!  Hopefully that prankster whale that nearly toppled me last year isn't around.

I don't think anyone has said it yet.  Don't go into the ocean alone.  Take a buddy.  Yeah, some guys here do it, but your odds of something going seriously wrong go exponentially up if you're alone out there.  Plus, it's funner when you're with a buddy.

And the radio, get the radio.

Good luck and see you out there!

Hobie Kayaks / Re: anybody fishing a Compass yet?

I'm considering purchasing a compass as a second kayak for family/friends.  I'm curious if anyone has tested it in the ocean yet?  I noticed the seat sits up higher on the deck and you're much further out of the water than the Outback.  Seems a bit tippy to me.  However, it is wider and that would help stability.  I like the >$2k price tag but paying the extra $600 is probably in my better interest consider what you give up over the Outback.

I posted this back in September but unfortunately the event had to be cancelled due to the fires in Sonoma County.  The tourney is back on for all those interested.  Here's the flyer.

Just read a post on the Sonoma Sheriff's facebook page about 2 dudes from Sac who decided that paddling a canoe to Bodega Head in December while wearing waders was a great idea.  Lucky to be alive and are probably enjoying a little hypothermia right now.  Dummies.  Nice work Henry One!

Expensive a fuck for about $100 worth of steel, I love being able to weld! Are the stock rear bumper bars going to bottom out before the light weight skid plate under the nose of that hobie? Think receiver hitch scraping on an inclined driveway. That sucker looks REAL tall from the back photo. Too bad it isnít at an angle with the bottom facing the rig.

I have a pretty steep driveway ramp and didn't bottom out on that.  I'm sure I'll run into a few issues with bottoming out.. but hopefully I can anticipate them.  I'm learning that everything in this sport is overpriced.. especially anything with the name "HOBIE" on it.

What's the height from the ground to the tip of the highest point of the kayak on level ground?
You will also have to figure in bounce height.

13' 3".. leaving me a whopping 3" of "extra" clearance!  And shit, never considered the bounce height!

That's very cool. Does the rudder stay still---looks like it might want to flap in the breeze...

Ya, I'll have to think of a better way to secure it before I hit the road with it, for sure!

Well.. got the rack and everything looks good.  Expensive as fuck but a good alternative to pulling a trailer.

I settled for a 42qt Bayou Classic with steam basket.  It's aluminum but I won't use it that often so it should be fine.   Too cheep to pay for stainless.  Thanks for all the help!

Our motto is:  "Its not a holiday until Uncle Bob gets tossed out a window".  Poor Uncle Bob.  Rest in Peace.

Doran Beach in Bodega if you wanna drop your crab pots.  Berryessa and Clear Lake are decent lakes with camping all around.  More of a mountain lake would be Pillsbury.  Bumpy road but beautiful lake and good campground.   Launch from Nick's Cove in Tomales for great halibut fishing.  You can take your camping gear in the kayak and beach camp around there.  McCovey cove during baseball season, fishing is nil but the beer and atmosphere are great!
