General Talk / Re: Fire in Santa Cruz Mountains

I'm heading up to Cruz this weekend.  O e fire to the next.  Hopefully the air is clear!

Great Video Moo!  I filmed Noaki with my phone as he was landing that second fish.  It's video proof that he is a badass fisherman!  I thought he was screwed when he fouled the hook in his net then deftly flipped it over like a pro and hauled it in.  I honestly would have lost that fish!

Sorry I didn't post it earlier but I've been up to my ass in fire for the past 4 days.  I'll add it to your thread when I get some free time today.

I wanna go back this weekend.

We are in East Windsor and ready to roll if the Tubbs fire decides to crawl over the hill.  Winds are pushing it the other way right now.  Hang in there everyone!

Smoke is getting so thick here that it's making us cough inside the house. If it gets any worse we will have to evac just to get some clean air.

This is fucking devastating.  We are still in shock.  We've been up since 3:30 am and are packed, ready for evac.  Lark field near River Rd is wiped out as well as most of northeast and northwest Santa Rosa.  We are the lucky ones so far and I'm thinking we are safe but spot fires in West Windsor have been sparking up and threatening homes.  Reports from dozens of friends who lost their homes are pouring in.  It's still chaos out there and it's hard to get info.  We still have power but gas and cable are off.

Sloppy and D, and any of you other NCKA'ers that are affected, my prayers are with you.

Thanks for the heads up!  I wear the Olukai's and they look to have very similar uppers.  But the Merril's are $50 cheaper!  I might have to get my hands on a pair.

Here's a list of items to bring to help make the chill more appeasing for you..
A chair
Warm clothes. Mornings are chilly right now then warms up
Salmon gear and tackle
Potluck donation
Fishing license
Camera
Net, Big Net
Bubblely attitude

If anyone has and can bring an extra Table to put food on to for potluck that would be great and much appreciated. Wx is looking great For Saturday. Looking forward to a great FishNChill with Everyone. Park gates open I believe at 530. See ya there

Thanks for the heads up.  Is it reasonable to wear a 3mm Farmer John or will I be roasting when the sun comes up?  I'm leaving Santa Rosa around 4am so I should be there a little before 6am.  Looking forward to a million snags and losing all the brand new expensive tackle I just purchased!  Yeeha!

Gangrene? WTF!!!  Were you recently in the jungle and fell in a punji stick trap?  Yikes.  That sounds horrible!  Hope you recover soon!

It's very doable to anchor brody. It's not as fast as u think..some spots are, but most are deep mild to slow current cause of the depth. U just have to try to make sure your anchor line is directly behind your boat for best positioning..this part of the River is easy.  1-2oz higs are ideal. 12-15lb. Test on a good light casting outfit is all u need. Great to hear your coming. See ya there

Right on!  Thanks for the info.  Looking forward to seeing you all!

Just dropped a shit ton on a new reel and tackle.. so I guess I'm committed!  How realistic is it to anchor in the American?  I'm a bit paranoid about dropping an anchor in current and I have no clue what the AR is like this time of year.

I picked up some Blue Fox spinners and some Silvertrons in blue and green colors as well as some jigs for mooching.  3 or 4 ounce weights sound right?  Its gonna be a miracle if I actually land a fish.

General Talk / Re: How to rack an Outback?
« on: October 04, 2017, 11:48:51 AM »
I'm using the Thule Dock Glides and they work great.  But I did dent the shit out of the bottom of my Outback by cinching it down too tight.  I also have the Outrigger which pulls out of the bar and helps prop the boat up while you lift it to the roof.  Expensive as all hell but works well.  Give me a call if you have any questions.

General Talk / Re: 13 foot boat - 16 foot car - what could go wrong?

"16 foot hobie on a 16 foot audi a3 for years no problems."

Got a picture of that!? That's awesome!

Love the straps under the hood idea.. so there's a line coming up through the crack between hood and fender?

Ya.. I just removed a bolt from the flange inside the hood and bolted the strap down.  You can do this anywhere under the hood where you feel comfortable.  Mine is on the left side of the hood about 6 inches from the front.   It folds under hood when not in use.  I then attached a tension line to the strap and the front handle of the kayak.  Easy peasy!
