More than likely San Clemente Island.

You might see turtles. Sea turtles. Just a heads up. Don't want you to get triggered.
I really wish I could make this work, I look at the trip reports every time, looks like so much fun..I just have no idea how I could swing it. It might be one of those ask for forgiveness instead of permission deals and just pull the trigger. WAF account be damned.

With La Nina kicking in, would it be beneficial to go further south?
Makes sense! Yeah I wouldnt want to go further south to risk being blown out anyway. With La Nina kicking in, would it be beneficial to go further south?
La Nina or El Nino ... we've seen it all on the San Clemente trips. All were still good.
There are some logistical and cost issues with going further south. The trip is priced for a San Clemente run. Any longer run and I would expect the price to change accordingly. Fuel costs are the largest component of the pricing.
Further south at the time of year we go would likely mean more wind. We have explored another Cedros trip, but 1) can't seem to get enough to go on a 5 day trip, 2) even if we did, 2 of the days would be spent travelling, and 3) we keep getting warned that we could easily be blown out.
If you have the itch to get into more yellowtail, I would suggest booking a charter boat trip before or after this trip. Best of both worlds?

Just curious, how many anglers will the Islander accommodate comfortably?
33 anglers. But our trips are never more than 24 anglers because they can only take 22 kayaks. Two people per stateroom is the norm.
I have put together 15 long range trips, but this will be my first mothership.
Do we need Mexico permits, if so, are they included?
No Mexico permits needed, but you will need an Ocean Enhancement Stamp.
Some boats charge for soda/water, and some have free fountain for both, which is avail?
The Islander has free soda and water from the fountain.
Can we bring our own alcohol (within limits)?
We have in the past, but they REALLY frowned upon it last year due to recent boardings and inspections.
what is the normal % to tip the crew on this trip?
Whatever you feel comfortable with. If you go back and read anything Islander related on any website or forum, the one thing that you will notice mentioned again and again is how awesome the crew is and how hard they work to make everything damn near perfect. I have no problem handing them my whole jackpot winnings when I'm fortunate enough to pull that off.
Sorry for all the questions, but just want to be sure and be well prepared

Please add me to the list.
Fair warning to all, I snore and sleep hard....Please add me to the list.
F Yeah dude!!!!!!!!!!!! Bunk mates?
I'm in for July, but can't make June (end of quarter).I see the CPAP life chose you too! My portable battery lasts about 2 nights but there should be power outlets! All the boats I've been on have had power outlets.
I have a Mazda CX5 with roof rack and trailer that can carry 3 yaks if anyone wants to carpool.
Forgive the noob question, but I'm assuming we sleep on the Mothership and paddle out to fish and can fish from the mother ship?
I have sleep apnea and have a portable battery, but do they have power to recharge the battery?

Second day I decided to dedicate to kayak fishing. My second drop of the day was when I felt the pull of something big! Bam,bam and the line started to peel. It felt like the fish was going in circles around a column of kelp because I could see and feel the line moving in circles. I just maintained my composure and focused on not breaking off this fish. After about 25 minutes I could not feel a fish on the end of my line anymore........My last resort would be to cut some kelp with the with the line and try to break free. I released my kelp clip, pointed the Hobie towards the open ocean and started pedaling like a madman! I finally feel the kelp break free and a dead weight on the line.
At about 15ft I see color, white, I had no idea what it was. Kiel says "WSB bro!" We team up and land the fish. This was my first WSB and on the Islander trip! Thanks Kiel!
I caught it with a 6oz Scrambled egg yoyo jig w/ two live squid pinned on the treble. Lucky13 has named this setup a "Squid Orgy!"

Don't want talk bad, but that is what the Intrepid and the Independence charges for a 4 day which includes everything. I've seen the Islander and can honestly say it's not even in the same game as boats charging this price. I would love to join the group on this, but I'm going to have to think real hard about spending that much for this trip.

With Kayaks? Really? Maybe we should book with one of those elite boats! ( I was under the impression the Islander was the only bigger off shore boat that took kayak trips.)
Islander charges less (per person) for non-kayak trips also. Boat is still same $$ for each day, but they can take more people if they don't have kayaks and all the related gear. Just math.
Bushy
I'm still interested in going, but like I said, I'll have to think a little harder about the $$$ involved.

I would consider a 3.5 day for $1000
Ya know? Thinking about this price increase, I have considered the following;
For $875 -
- I could buy a round trip plane ticket to Hawaii or Cabo = $$$
- I may have $500+ left over for food, lodging, island travel, boat ride etc. = not enough $$$
- I probably need more like $1500 + to make it doable with enough time and extras?
- I won't have my kayak or fishing gear (unless I opt to drive 1337 miles and 33.5 hours to Cabo, then back)?
- I won't have a guide unless I know someone, or hire one???
- I (probably) won't be able to bring any fish home?
but, "if"? I go Islander again for 2.5 days (guaranteed) -
- I get a guided boat ride to and from San Clemente island
- I get a stateroom for 2+ days
- I get 3 meals per day
- Bait and beer if I want (No host?)
- Freezer storage and cleaning (add $$ tip for cleaning) for the fish I catch
- Comraderie with like minded souls of NCKA
- I will have to pay for parking (shared $$)
- Driving expenses to and from the Central Coast
- I catch exotic fish that I usually don't have access to.
- $$ Tip for the crew, "if?" I choose.
- I'm retired, so for me it's doable :smt007!
Just sayin', nuff said.

For $875 (ea), if you don't need to be pampered, would more than cover a ten day trip to Baja. Don't dead head to Cabo, camp along the way at different spots on the Sea of Cotez and Mag Bay.

I got no skin in this game, but I'm thinking why don't you guys organize a trip to fish La Jolla? June is my favorite month for LJ as the pelagics start to show but the reef and kelp species are also at their strongest. You guys can stay at the same hotel and while you may not have 3 meals made for you daily, you have the option to drive not too far in any direction for some excellent food. With enough guys on the water, you can fan out and hunt in wolf packs north, south and west.

I've fished La Jolla a few times, and while it's a really cool place to fish, it's nothing like fishing San Clemente Island. There's way more options at SCI.

I used to live in Panama. I even bought some land on lake Gatun to retire to. I've never done Panamakayakadventure, but I'm looking at Los Buzos.
http://www.losbuzos.net/ (http://www.losbuzos.net/)
6-16 guest 7 days, 6 nights, 5 active days. Bunk rooms (3-5 people) $1360 person, Private room (double occupancy) $1530 person.
All Packages include ground transportation from Panama City, 7 nights lodging, 5 days activity
All packages include continental breakfast, packed lunch, and cook your catch dinner (or chicken)
Kayak fishing packages include fish rigged Hobie Outback, sounder and pfd
Non anglers receive one of the following each day subject to advance scheduling and seasonality: 4 hour mountain/beach horseback tour, half day SUP, half day guided reef walk/snorkel tour, 3 hour nature/waterfall hike, transport to world class surf breaks.
Yeah, so the skinny on Islander I get is this: owner says he has been uderpricing drastically for years. une is typically a slow monthfor the boat, and others advised me he also ran yak trips to "keep" his deckhands. He charges a lot more for his shark trips (but they have to tavel), and charges more for his regular fishing tripsthough individual pricing maybe less due to increased # of anglers they can take for fishing off the boat only.I don't believe he was blaming kayakers for the loss of the outboard engine, probably referring to the expense of replacement. They probably don't use the outboard for fishing-from-boat trips.
He cites 30% of his exterior maintenance costs come from the few yak trips they have been running. Rack need to be rebuilt, they lost an engine last year (puzzling why he included that cost in explanation, considering one of his deckhands dropped the motor off the back of the Zodiac. "did you attach the safety Line?.......Uh, No.")
Third party hinted to me the deckhand "Don't Like" to do yak trips. Too hard. (I seem to remember them as loving us, and loving the fact they had hours and hours to actually fish while we were all out yakfishing).
John is a great guy, and it's a great boat. But, for this year we are going to decline booking a June trip. There are a couple other possibilities we're looking into, including boats embarking from Santa Barbara or Oxnard. fising the Main Channel Islands. That means 1/2 the drive and no LA trafffic.
Great times and great memories, and more good times ahead. Promise.

I was talking to Captain/owner John last year on our 3-day trip and even though he denied it, you could tell that he was kind of over the whole kayak mothership thing. I'm wondering if it's because Shane was bought out and Jason bailed, so now John is left as the main captain for all these trips.
I would consider the Excel trip. The Royal Polaris trip is too close to my annual trip in July. It's also more fun when you know someone on the boat.

Im sure that's part of it, at least concerning Jason. He bailed right before our trip also......
And Sansano and I might join you on a long-range trip. Never done that yet.
