Got a sturgeon in Napa river by cutting wharf.  44"  , but got him on a snare trolling for striper. Moral dilemma at its finest.  Released to get bigger for next time.  Got a striper last night below the southern crossing, 21inch.

Must been niCe to fight a sturgeon. And on a jerkbait too. What was your water depth and how deep was the diver? First time hearing of a sturgeon going after a hardbait... Guess there's a first time for everything.

Does snare mean snag or did a sturgeon actually pounce on a moving swim bait?

Looking at the picture it looks like you can see the red lure snagging it on the side. That must have been extra hard pulling it in sideways.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

That is what I thought I saw.

Moral and a legal dilemma. It gets to live on and you don't have to worry about losing your gear and paying a fine.

I thought I was snagged up, pulling away to break loose.. until my reel started burning.lol called the guy with the boat for a hand cause I was winging it out there.  It was a great fight, best I've had to be honest.  Christmas came early.

Was the striper trolling still pretty slow ? I went out last weekend and got one 22" but that was it. Water temps are dropping into that "bait soaking" range.

Oh yeah, slow right now.  I got a couple on rattle traps casting along the shoreline by the bridge, but just one keeper.
