Has there ever been a BFT caught on a kayak?  Don't they typically hang out w/ Albacore (way off shore)?

Chuck caught a nice YFT last Jun.  20#, I think.

The biggest tuna of any kind that I have seen on a yak was a nice yft that Jon Schwartz caught in PV.  It was around #40.  In typical Schwartz mode it was caught via mothership.  He has however bagged some FAT ulua lately without any mothershipping in Hawaii.

Funny.  This made me laugh!

In any case, those tuna are great accomplishments on a kayak whether he paddled or mothershipped, IMO.  The tiny skip jack I caught on my RL trip gave me a run for my money.  Can't imagine the fight those brutes put up...

Indeed.  Just being a butthead for the sport of it...but from what I've seen Jon is a whacky dude.  He came to RL once while we were there for about two days...panga-yakked both days and then paddled out front in the eve.  He nailed a HUGE rooster by the lighthouse but spent so much time f'n with it to get a zillion photos it died.   :smt009   To his credit he brought it back to eat his mistake...he clearly felt bad...that is a lot of strong tasting fish to eat!

I would be interested to see the video of how in the world you can subdue a 111 pound tuna on a yak.

I would think that a tuna that big would just find a yak attached to it to be a minor nuicance.

Jon told me about fighting the big tuna. Kayaks don't lend themselves to vertical fights. It sounded like pure torture. But landing the beast, that was plain crazy to see. And yes, Jon is one nutty dude. An enthusiastic guy who is probably having more fun than all of us put together.

Here's the link to his website. The video should be out fairly soon: http://www.bluewaterjon.com/
