I was visiting the TOPP website to see if any tagged sharks have popped up near Ano.  None have at this time. However it looks as though 3 mako sharks made near shore appearances during the summer.  Anyone ever see a Mako around here?

I've never heard of a sighting there but it's well within their normal range. Since they don't feed on seals per se, the only sightings would be by fisherman who caught them. Also they're in the same family as GWS, the Lamnidae (GWS, Salmon, Porbeagle, Mako) so could easily be mistaken for a juvenle GWS.

From a great website: http://marinebio.org
"The mako shark is found around the world in warm and temperate seas, in the Pacific from Oregon to Chile."

Thanks for the info. During shark week I watched a show that stated the Mako is actually the best designed shark.  fast, strong, sensory etc...

Makos are very cool.

I would be sweet to catch on on the yak,  they jump like crazy.

The guys down South on Dennis Spike's site have tried for them--not sure if they ever caught one. Not sure I hope they do: it would be like having a Lion on a leash--who has who? I don't want one of those near my kayak with me on board at the time. I don't lasso Bears either  :smt003

I had a shot at one off of La Jolla once.

I was fishing for some bruiser mackerel and my buddy on his PB was near me and shouted out Holy @#%@#!!!

A 6' mako was circling his boat.  I ddn't really have the gear to go for it but I caught a mack and tossed it his way to see what would happen.

Nothing happened and the mako dissapeared.
