I wish I had either (a) a bilge pump which is permanently installed in my kayak so I can operate it without opening a hatch, or (b) a suction hose permanently installed between the bottom of my kayak and a port on the gunwale, so I can attach a bilge pump to the port and pump out my kayak with the hatches closed. Has anybody devised either of these systems?

This is an interesting idea. For my water supply, I put a camelbak inside the hull, and use a fixed drinking tube that passes thru the hull. So, I could see having a larger diameter tube permanently mounted thru the hull. Then in an emergency, you could simply attach the pump and get rid of water from inside the hull without ever opening a hatch...

Btw, I always carry a pump, stored inside the center hatch of my Hobie, so it's easy to access---provided I can safely open the hatch.

This video of outfitting an AI shows one way to install access to inside the hull for draining with a manual bilge pump without opening up a hatch.

Never right side up or upside down.  Is this real or am I dreaming.

Lots of cool stuff in that video. I especially like the modification to the bow hatch---seems like it would be way more usable on the water.

I also carry a bilge pump, spare paddle, and a bailing sponge in case the pump fails.
