I just booked a walk-in tent site for the nights of the 26th and 27th. There are still a couple of tent sites left and more sites at the campgrounds on the other side of the CG station.

Thinking we should put NCKA flags/signs with screen name on our camp sites... Make it easy to find each other not camped in the jetty area... ??? good idea? I'll have mine up.

I currently have campsite #58 at Cove campground (NOT the Jetty campground).  If you have a campsite to share, let me know- as I'd obviously prefer to be closer to y'all.  :smt006  I have a sedan and small tent, and kayak.  Otherwise, I'll sleep at my site, but crash someone's site ALL DAY!  :smt003

The Day of the event is on the 1/27, I recommend booking a site for 1/26 and checking out on 1/28. Nothing worst then having to pack up and leave your site during the event.

Hi All~ :smt006
I'd like to join in on the crabfest fun. Sounds like a blast. I waited to "RSVP" because it's a bit out of my element, I've never crabbed from the yak but I'm totally ready and willing to try it! Any advice on what to buy for set up would be great. Also, should we book any spot in particular since the jetty is all booked? We don't have motor home or camper so we will be tenting it.  :smt011
I've never been to Bodega Bay but have heard lots about it and I'm "Reel'E" excited to check it out! :smt044

A lot of people are using Promar 102W because of its weight and how easy it is to use. Make sure to check the regulation as there are some new changes in regards to modifying the traps. Search the threads, there’s a lot of how to’s on this topic. If you’re one of those people that likes to check their traps frequently, then bring some crab rings as well

As for the camping, the regular camp ground is not that far from the Jetty campground. You can always chance it as people tend to cancel and give up their site Days prior to the event, but that is a long shot as people grabs them fast.

There are first come, first served sites available at all the campgrounds. I like the walk in tent campground, it's quieter.

This is the most complete introduction to crabbing I have seen:
https://coastsidefishingclub.com/grey-beard-articles/crabbing-guide/
Also see the attached pdf written by someone on this board.

You will probably be in 15 - 30 feet of water at Doran so 40' shots of line will be plenty.

You could stop by Petaluma Sport Shop & Dive on the way, and they will get you set up.

Remember, there will not be registration the day of the event. So if you know someone who is planing to participate, please let them know.

The most difficult thing about doing registration this way is actually BUYING the stamp!  :smt005 I have no use for stamps in my life and can never find one when I need it then forget about it when at somewhere that has them! Need to make paypal the payment of choice!

Yes but then you still have to give me your registration and waiver. This will make things easier the day of the event too. Just check in and go Crab.

Just a reminder, there will be no registration the day of the event. The registration and waiver need to be postmarked by 01/05/17.

There is a $15 fee this year for those who be competing, there isn't a fee for family who will be hanging out.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I actually booked the last campsite , ( 4 )  for Friday and am hoping to day use for Saturday. If that is possible there ?  I may be cheating and bringing my boat to crab.  :smt001  I just look forward to hanging out. If work does not allow, I will put my campsite up for grabs. Hope to see you all.

Hi Alex~
Hope work will allow for you to make it to Crabfest. IF for some reason you can't, I have lagged on booking our site & will gladly pitch a tent on your space if you can't go. We live in Prunedale so getting you payment quickly would be easy. In the mean time, I'm still going to see if I can try and reserve a spot or get on a list for any cancellations. Hope to meet you there.

Eric,
As long as the campgrounds people don't have a problem with it, I think your van will fit in my site.  I'm next to Dave, so we should be able to fit you in somewhere.  I just don't know about State Campground regs.  I'll check in as two people at the gate.  I know they're very particular about not letting people park on the grass surfaces.  We can probably locate my trailer in a nearby campsite if need be.

You are allowed two cars per site, after that they need to go into the overflow spot. So you guys should be good.

Hey guys,
Looking forward to the event if anyone has an open parking spot at there campsite I will gladly share the cost of it and bring food/beer. Will be sleeping in the bed of my truck so I won't need much room. Let me know if any of you have a spot.
Thanks,
Jake

They allow two cars per camp site and a max of 8 people at anytime. If you have another vehicle you pay the extra vehicle fee and park in overflow.

It looks like there is was walk in tent site left from what I can see. The link to book is http://sonomacountycamping.org/Index.asp

It is recommended that you book the Saturday night also so you do not have to check during the event.

I only see one site which is a light blue colored site - is this the walk in site you are referring to? If so, it is for disabled only.

Yes you are correct, I did not realize that. I did see that D is available for Friday night only, but that would mean you would have to pack up during the event which is not really ideal. There should be some spots that will open up as it gets closer to the cancellation deadline.

Hi everyone, I'm crazy bummed that we wont be able to make it this year. As a result, site 108 is now available on the Jetty. I just cancelled our reservation....so it's up for grabs on the website and by calling the Sonoma Parks at 707-565-2267.
I'm planning on grabbing this site again next year! So don't fall in love with it like we have :-)

This is the first year we have done a pre-registration for this event. The last day to register for the competition part was 01/05/18. If you did not register you can still partake in the festivities, crabbing, raffle and potluck, just not the competition portion.

Please send me a PM if you have any questions.

A big thank you to Headwaters Kayak Shop in Lodi. They have been a premiere sponsor since the first Crabfest.

Check them out online at:  www.headwaterskayak.com

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/headwaterskayak/

This year they will be providing a cash prize to the Top 3 Dungeness Crab winners.

1st place will get $150
2nd place will get $100
3rd place will get $50

They have also hooked me up with a great deal on the Vibe Sea Ghost 110 that will be used for the participation raffle. Everyone who registered will get raffle ticket for the kayak. There will be no additional tickets sold. So if you registered you have a 1 in 90 chance of winning. The Sea Ghost Kayak has some great features and I am excited to see who takes it home.

*** Reminder, whatever the weather is, you do not need to go out in order to win the kayak. All you have to do is check in the morning of the event. ***

Be safe, wear a PFD, carry a VHF Radio and dress for immersion. You can also crab in the harbor, just stay out of the boat channel.

We haven't had any major issues, but here are some friendly reminders from the park. We apply for a permit each year and it is based on the previous event.

1) If you are just coming for the day, there is a day use fee. If you get there before the station is open you must complete the registration on the envelope and deposit the cash into the iron ranger.

2) Tables and Parking are available on a first come,  first served basis. Additional Parking is available at the boat ramp area.

3) BBQ and cooking equipment must stay in the picnic areas. They are not allowed on the beach. Fires are only allowed in the designated fire rings. No fires on the beach.

4) Bands or amplification of voice or music are not permitted.

Campsite Info:

1) Rates include one vehicle and one towed vehicle per site. Each additional vehicle is $7 per night.

2) Up to eight people are allowed per site. Check-in is 2 PM. Check-out is 12 PM.

3) Most campgrounds allow dogs for a fee of $2 per dog, per night.

Just a friendly reminder that the one thing that park employees and those of us that volunteer at Doran hate the most is zip-ties and, even worse, pieces of zip-ties. They are impossible to pick up with the "trash grabbers".

If anyone needs a spot to park for Saturday, I am sure we'll have room in our camp spot, site 113. I'm not bringing a trailer this year. Easy launch as well.  First come, first serve!
BUT!
You must bring something yummy for potluck.
Ha!

Oh, and you still need to pay a day use fee and have the tag in the window.  I don't wanna be tazzed bro!

Yes,  this event is great for new anglers. You don't even need to go out. Just bring a dish for the potluck and hang out. You will be able to see how everyone is rigged for the ocean and crabbing.

Last minute reminders:

1) You do not have to go out on the water to participate. Only go out if you are comfortable, wearing a pfd, able to self rescue and dressed for immersion.

2) If you arrive at the gate before the park ranger opens the booth, pay cash and follow the instructions posted. They will check cars and you will get a ticket if you haven't paid.

3) You must check in before you start crabbing. Check In will start at sunrise (7:20 AM). You will be given a wristband. As soon as you check in,  you can start crabbing.

4) Review the rules on the first page. Follow all rules of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Make sure you have a fishing license and crab gauge on you. Do not bring undersize crab on the beach or to the check in table.

5) There will be a raffle, and all proceeds will go to www.dyf.org Raffle tickets will be $1 each, and cash only.

6) There is some extra clothing, and it will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

7) Please do not park in the first 3 spots on the left closest to the picnic area. Those spots are used for event staff. Do not place items in the parking space to save spots, if you are waiting in line, please respect those in front of you.

8 ) Please respect the rangers/host when they open they gate. Last year we had someone cut them off, there is no need to rush and there is plenty of parking.

Please check this thread for any updates. I will be at site 104 starting Friday afternoon.

Hi Victor, Narissa and NCKA Family,

I recently found out that I won't be able to attend this years CRABFEST. Have been having pains in my right arm for the last couple of months and this month it really started hurting when I would lift or use my right arm for anything. Was trying to see if it would go away or get better from my swimming and exercise routine.
Well, the pain started to get really bad about a week ago and so I decided that I needed to get some medical expertise to try to find out what was causing these sciatica/nerve pathway pains. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to pull up crab traps with this kind of pain. Saw a good Ortho/surgeon on Monday an he confirmed that it was a nerve pathway problem. Had an MRI on Tuesday and saw Dr. Michael Park on Wednesday. The MRI showed that I had a narrowing of the nerve pathway around my upper neck C4/C5 vertebrae. I am scheduled to have a upper vertebrae cortisone shot this coming Monday.
So, after much anticipation after not going tp Crabfest for the past 2 years, I will not be able to attend this year's.

I wanted to offer my campsite to anyone who needs one, it is already paid for.

If anyone wants the site here's are the details:

I reserved  Campsite C-it is one of the larger campsites close to the Crabfest site from Friday 1/27 to 1/28.
Check-in time is 2pm on Friday and you have to leave the site by 12noon on Sat.
If anyone wants it, I can email you the Reservation Confirmation.

It's looking like the rains will be gone fr4om Friday for the next 5 days or so. Crabfest should be a Blast!!!!

Crabfest is one the great NCKA gatherings, I was totally impressed with what Victor an Narissa did to make it happen when I first attended 3 years ago.

Crabfest is one the great NCKA gatherings, I was totally impressed with what Victor an Narissa did to make it happen when I first attended 3 years ago.

Ethan and I had a blast participating in the 7th annual NCKA Crabfest at Doran Beach. I always make it a point to bring the family over and camp out for the weekend and enjoy some quality time on the beach. To me Crabfest represents what the kayak fishing community is all about. An awesome family friendly atmosphere, great food, and the spirit of giving back to those in need. The Crabbing is just the excuse for us to come together.

This was Ethans first time crabbing with me so we brought out the new Feelfree Kayaks Lure 2 equipped with the Overdrive pedal system. This made it easy to pedal to our spot and provided huge stability when dropping and pulling pots. Even in swell I felt like I could move around the boat and help Ethan pull pots. I'm very excited to have this boat in our family quiver.

As always huge thanks to Victor Vwool, and Narisa for putting on such an incredible event.
