great vid and report....and even better crabs....good job

how is the Striper fishing there lately?  is everyone planning on targeting trout?

Its been slow...I was out there for a few hours last weekend tossing a spro and huddleston....Had a 3 lb LMB follow it in and numerous trout follow them in as well...no bites

234
Those crab cakes look good...got a recipe by chance?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Harmony Fishing Seat
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:25:51 PM »
I used one when I was in Baja a few years ago.  Worked great and was comfortable....would've like a little extra padding in the butt though.  I can't really comment on the rod holders as we didnt use em.

I would think in a trap it would work fine...a hoop it seems after awhile the crab can't get anythign it would move on

I know it can be fairly common down south hooping for lobster.  Just crack the can a bit and toss it in with the rest of your bait.  Like was mentioned before its to help chum in addition to bait.

Was the guy on the pier just using catfood and not additional bait?

Well I can't help you that much on the Northern part but I can help on the southern swing.

I would look at Jalama Beach.  Campgrounds on the water nice little surf launch and some great fishing.

Looking at the launch/camprgounds

Couple fish

Heading south you can look at Carpenteria or Carp reef....some reports of WSB and Threshers going through the area....

Through Ventura County there isnt that much.  I've fished Arco Island a number of times but nothing really spectacular.

Head further South and hit up Malibu.  Camp at Leo Carrilo State Beach and you can launch at the beach.  You will be looking at some Calicos, Halibuts, Sand bass, and assorted rock fish.  Eat at Neptune's Net which is just north of Leo Carrillo....

From LA south to Orange County you are looking at mainly fishing Harbors.  I would spend a day fishing Newport Beach Harbor....Besides the great "scenery" in the summer time it has a pretty good spotted bay bass population....Great time on light tackle.

From there head south and definitely hit up La Jolla...launch early and make bait and hope for a nice yellowtail!

Recipes / Re: Anyone know about Ceviche?
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:11:28 PM »
IMO its better if the fish isnt frozen first...yeah you run a higher risk of parasites but freezing it changes the texture and water content of the meat.

When I was in Alaska the captain on the boat I was with said to blead the salmon and a bulk of the parasites/worms head to the remaining blood which is pooled in the guts....not sure if its true or not.
