Title: 3.5 disc files to USB stick?

Anyone in the Sacramento area have access to a pc with a 3.5 floppy disc drive? I would like to transfer some old family tree files to a usb stick or cd.

Al,  you can buy a USB external floppy drive on Amazon for about $12.00.

I saw some on Amazon. I would rather not buy a drive to use one time, but it’s an option.

I have a drive you can use, but it is more complicated than just sticking a floppy into the drive. Your computer's motherboard must have a header to connect the drive's cable. Most computers manufactured in the past 10 years do not come with a floppy header.

Follow-up on my original post, if anybody cares... my friend was able to transfer the files from the 3.5 disc to a usb stick. I tried to open the files on my pc with no luck. Tried again on my wife's old pc and it opened as an old DOS program and data file. I did some research and found an old windows family tree program that would convert the data files to a modern format.

With some effort, we ended up saving an old DOS family tree file that my family would have never seen. It's good to know that my fathers efforts were not lost forever.
