Launched around 7 am ish 10 NWKA confirmed yakin fishing fools one unconfirmed free diver some lady fishing off s sup and one cheaper unidentified "person" that was wearing........... Yep ......... You guessed it........... A pair of gym shorts, bare footin, a wind breaker and you won't guess where his PFD was....... Yes it was in his bow hatch. After talking with him a few minutes about the safety rant hypothermia he ended up heading in before we did after being out there for an hour or so....... Hope he looks at NWKA web page and takes my warnings as education and not putting him down. I managed a nice cabizon 4 rock fish and didn't upchum in the water. Had a blast and seen SteveM nail a nice cabizon and a couple good lings, heliumhead nabbing his firs ever keeper ling and the sweeps were calm and the wind not to bad till we rolled in around 9:30-10.

Ok I'm that guy that was completely unprepared to salmon fish, only bait I had was a green label herring I fished out of the Tillamook Bay the other day when I took my son out , thinking the tray was empty and just trash I grabbed it and hey one in it, ok tossed in the freezer. Load up my gear except I forget my SLA battery and my fish cooler,  hell I'm not going to catch fish just get Upnorthtex out. Shooting the breeze with spot and my knots are less then reliable for fighting fish I had spot tie up my shock leader, we got Art launched and I asked spot if he could plug cut my lucky herring, neither of us have a bait knife.... That's cool Art's got his plug jig and knife I seen it on his boat. Cruze over to Art have him plug my recycled herring put it in a sure spin dip it to make sure it's spinning... Check, put on a 6 oz weight , turn out towards the tide ... Drop my rig making sure it's not tangled..check... Touch bottom with weight..check , start peddling a little faster and put the rod in the holder.. Check, cool I'm fishing... Pole buckles over!! Oh great snagged already..crap! Pull rod from holder and have my rod about jerked out of my hand ?!?!? Over and over!!! OH SHIT "FISH ON..HEY MARK , FISH ON!!!!!! Was a short and exciting fight and as I'm fumbling to get my short handled net under my wild chinook Mark hollers over "You want a grownup's net?"
After I  got my prize netted I told him where to put his grownup's net.
Fish on the stringer.. Check, Mark slit the gills before I could even get it out of the net!!!! YAAA BABY that's what I'm talking about.
I sure got the evil eye every time I got spotted passing spot, pretty sure I seen a few flying birds as well as read some xrated lips as we passed. I had a blast and cut out early with Art as he was at his max for time on the water for one day. Plus I had a fish  >:D sorry Mark that one was for you. And thanks for helping wrangle my fish in my kiddie net  ;) thanks Art for that expertly cut recycled herring it worked.
So I guess it does pay to be unprepared... At least for me.

So we did a triple tread in the Tillamook Bay today= crabbing, rockfishing, salmon trolling. Here's the report:

Got to the launch early this morning 6:30 after a grueling 2.5 minute drive, started rigging as Pinstriper and his buddy showed up in separate truck followed by heliumhead and cjweinhe. I was pretty much ready to roll and we got them rigged and launched a little later then expected at 7:45. Nice ride out followed with some good sprinkles after dropping the crab trap. I hooked into a 5 inch black rock that got sent back unharmed followed by two bay size rocks that went on the stringer and got donated to Cj. After a couple trolls for rocks we pulled the pots and 1 keeper for me 8 I believe for Cj. We decided to drop the traps closer to the exit  to soak while we cleaned the 9 we had put them on ice and switched to salmon gear, Pinstripers buddy had jelly arms and packed it in. No knife so heliumhead let me cut one of my recycled hering from my trip with Upnorthtex with his as we headed out. Crossed the sand bar to the channel and drop her down and start trolling... About 50 yards before Hobson Point be do followed with nothing no sticky sticky. Check bait it's ok sent it back down and just past the floating turd house be do and a miss again followed by a few choice words. Baits still good get to the bottom end and turn for a return troll about 75 yards before the toilet I tell Pinstriper to check and clear weeds and we redeploy.... Bendo and we got a sticker ... "FISH ON" my salmon net is on Cj's boat as he didn't have one and I don't have a good holder for it but luckily he's behind me and I'm now going towards him. Couple of good jumps and line peals and the damn thing comes back at me tangling in my flasher... "CRAP" Cj rolls on just in time and on the second attemp it's in the net..."TOUCHDOWN"  "hatchery ho" thanks for the net work Cj. Hooked to stronger gills are blessing and .., yep no pen on board... PB next to me loans me one and later said keep it happy birthday. Now if I keep it and I'm prepared I won't catch another. Shot back to pull the traps and I got 5 keepers in my first trap and 0 in the second. I gave 5 to heliumhead as 1 is enough for me. You know it's a good day when your covered in fish blood from the waist down,  PB'ers are congratulating you at the fish cleaning station and the first thing the wife says WHOA YOU STINK go shower. All in all I had a great birthday day fishing trip with some bonus presents. I guess Mother Nature only hates me when I hunt.

Ps I'll change the date with new posts :fishing2
