I'm thinking of investing in a gopro to mount on my kayak while fishing.  Is there a model that's recommended over others?  I would like to be able to take pictures and videos that I can post on youtube.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Are you asking for mount options or gopro options? For GoPro, anything after Hero 3 is great. Plus, if you have a lifeproof phone case, the GP3(or later) can connect to your phone via the app and you can make sure you have a good angle on the shot (or even start/stop the camera recording). The good news on the newest versions is the integrated screen on back, and wayyy better features like controlling ISO for evening/night shots.

Mountings are usually best done at least in part, DIY. LOTS of options to look at if you just cruise through various forums.

Looking forward to sweet photos!

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I just picked up a new GoPro Hero 5 for $250.00 and used it last week at GS12.  It takes great shots.  Its waterproof.  And best of all.. it has voice commands!  Love it.  Here's a shot I took in "SuperView" mode.

Hero 5 or Hero 6?????  Basically the same camera except for the chip (GP1) inside.  The Hero 6 has better stabilization than the Hero 5.  The Hero 5 is better price than Hero 6 ($250 vs. $399).  That's what it comes down too.  Are you willing to pay and extra $150 for stabilization built in?  I did and I'm happy with it.  I love the voice commands and better audio quality as compared to my Hero 4.

Be sure to buy some extra batteries and charger from Amazon.  I've had good luck with Smartree and a couple other off-brands.  You can usually get 2 extra batteries and a 3-way charger for the price of one official GoPro battery.

gopro.com has a sale -- use BOT20. Just picked up 2 hero6 with 32GB card for 319. Only downside is that tax is charged
