Yea, I'll be heading up there as will for diving and fishing. I'll be in a black f-150. I plan on getting there around 5pm Friday evening.

My wife and I are looking to head up there this weekend to camp and kayak. How is the campground, does it get pretty windy? Is the place really crowded? Weve only kayaked in the bay, is the cove decent for fishing and yaking, or do we have to go out into the rough, and how rough is it out there? Were still pretty fresh when it comes to Kayaking, and the blue will be all new to us. Also, all Ive fished for from the kayak so far, is halibut and LMB in lakes. What type of lures/bait, tackle do you recommend for up there to catch rock fish? Thanks ahead of time for the info and hope to see you guys there,

Geoff

Hi Geoff,
It can get windy there, but the forecast is looking really good, so I doubt it will, If you get a campsite in the back corner it really blocks alot of the wind, the drawback is that you lose the view. It gets pretty full during the weekend but since the minus tides are at 4am It will keep the rock pickers at home so it might not be to bad this weekend. They have a hot showers so bring some quarters. The cove can get rough sometimes but like I said the forecast is looking really good so I'm expect calm seas. The cove isn't very good for fishing but good fishing is a short paddle away and you can drive your yak all the way to the water. Fort ross and several other launch are close by as well.

I use swim baits with assorted colors, I like rootbeer with speckles, whites and some dark greens. Sometime iron works pretty well and if you get into a nice school of black shrimp fly's work well.

Ab season will be re-opened on August 1st (closed for the month of July).  A medium to heavy rod and various size lead heads will do the trick.  Squid is always a good bait in ocean.
