If you are on the 3.5 day trip and want to switch, it is your responsibility to find replacements for the 3.5 days trip. Your deposit for that trip is only good for that trip.

Oops didn't mean to imply I was simply just switching. I should have worded that differently. If I find two people to buy our deposits then I'd like to hop on board this trip. If not then whatevs! :smt003

I am proud to announce that our very own Wingshooter Mike has decided to be one of the sponsors for this trip. Mike's Branson Baits are a staple for us NorCal Rockfishers. Now let's go slay some SoCal exotics with them!
Thanks, Mike!

Slugs are gonna kill it!!! Thanks Mike!! Awesome tournament baits!!!
There are still some people on the 3.5 day trip that would like to switch to this trip. Currently they are listed in both trips. I suppose if one would like to switch from the this trip to the 3.5 days trip, we could entertain that. :smt002

Yes, I imagine that the slugs fished weedless in the kelp will be money for the big calicoes.

Just paid in full. Come on Abdiver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Game On!
Two spots open. Empty Pockets, you're up if you're still interested.
If the waters are warmer there, like last year, there is probably a greater possibility of yellowtail and tuna. Not sure how shallow tuna will go. White sea bass is always a possibility. Also not sure if there are other divers signed up here. I believe there is one, maybe two, on the longer trip. Two spots open. Empty Pockets, you're up if you're still interested.
Don't have time to read old threads but my interest was peaked when you said divers have been on trip. What exactly is everyone fishing for? Chance for yellowtail, tuna or WSB? If so I will pay right now.
And the viz can be "ok" too. That's awesome. Unless another serious diver who plans on being in the water a lot steps up I will have to pass for now. Better to have someone who will keep an eye out on each other. Still interested in shooting some halibut and looking into a sweet underwater camera set up so will keep an eye on this thread as a possibility.
Two years ago Kiel and I were sight fishing for sheepshead that were on the bottom..........in 42 feet of water.
Old#7, Annie and Nick sounds like a good time. Thanks for letting me know you plan on diving. Someone else claimed the spots if they don't pay you may see me on the boat.
Quinn - Will Mighty Quinn be fishing from his own kayak, or will he be with you on yours? Thanks.Hi Dustin, yes, Mighty Quinn will be on his own Kayak. We both have Hobies. Thanks for asking! I plan on sending payment this evening :) We are TOTALLY STOKED! :smt007 :smt007 :smt007
too late for the waiting list? pretty interested...lemme know if any spots free up, can pay now. thx.
There is a chance that one or two of the Johnson/OK guys can not make this trip, so if you're still interested hold tight and I'll update in a few days.
Let me get on that wait list. I don't know if I can make it but I will try if a chance opens up.
I'm planning on bringing 2 dozen packets of de-hydrated IPA microbrew.

Buy the beer from the boat! These guys work there asses off for you. They charge like three bucks a beer. They had a pretty good amount the last time I was aboard. Only bring what you can fit in your backpack. My 2 cents. :smt006

booked Saturday night at the Dolphin. Probably leave early and cruz down the 101 and camp on the beach somewhere, I wanna test out my new roof top tent. Never been to Refugio, anybody know if there's a dedicated number of drive in sites (campsites already booked that Friday)? Uncle Lapu Lapu told me that he camped in Ventura in his RV last summer. Any other suggestions (backroads, forest service roads near the coast to pop the tent) to break up the drive? Haven't driven down south in forever.
Not sure if anyone wants to bail on there reservation...PM me if you are having second thoughts.....thanks.

1+ week out.....where's the party down south? gettin ready!
anyone gotta large marine cooler or 2 or 3 they can loan me? i can try and fill it upon return?
Just wanted to say that using totes seems like a good way to go to store your stuff on deck. You probably saw the pics of the other trip on the Islander if your going on this trip. We had stuff piled all over the place :smt044 And don't forget to put your name on everything, or mark your stuff so it's distinguishable! :smt002
Anybody cancel yet?

Next year im going to wait till the last second to book.
Have there been any other kayak trips since the last one?
I talked to Julia a few days ago. their last trip, last week, had to be cancelled. Wind and big south swell. Conditions are holding for us though.......
On a different note, I may have to fly down and back to make the trip work best for family. Anyone sorta close by (Salinas, Watsonville, even San Jose?) that would be willing to huck my stuff (rods, one tub 'O Stuff, Boat) for me? I would contribute to your gas money and could deliver the stuff on Thursday or Friday, Pick up 1st day after return?
Or, if coming through Santa Cruz maybe arrange a pickup.
A lot to ask I know, but schedules are tightening at Casa Bushy and I'm low on WAF.

Park at fishermans landing right where we load the boat. I think it's 8 bucks a day.
On a different note, I may have to fly down and backto make the trip work best for familybecause I was super jealous of seeing Polepole roll up to Fisherman's Landing nice and fresh after not having to drive for 9 hours.
1 week!
Let's cross fingers for decent weather!

They had a IPA from Ballast Point Brewery, a local company. I enjoyed a few of those @$5 each.

For the live bait are you tying the leader to braid or using a swivel? How long of a leader are you using?
To pack a net or not pack a net? I noticed in the pictures most people didn't have one.
Did not see many nets. If you're into yellowtail, better to gaff than net.

Looks like an incredible trip! Every year since you guys have been doing this, I've always thought to myself, "someday"...
This year is no different... Someday...
lol
For any that are intrigued and have not gone as yet, start saving your pennies and dollar bills now. It really is an unbelievably affordable adventure. Put away $20 bucks a week starting now, and you're on the boat next June.

Muy Bonito in action.
Haha, Eric is drank...Muy Bonito in action.
Hahaha... oh my what a fun trip! What a fun bunch of guys! Crew and food... was bomb!
Those damn bonito. I stopped counting after 12.... but I tell you what those suckers can run!
I managed a bunch of quality Calico up to 5# both days. A few good ones came on an S-waver, deep diving plugs and weedless swim baits in the shallows along the cliffs and kelp. Basically bass fishing, it was a blast. As for yellows, I only managed 1 the first day. For me it was a learning day for sure, right drag setting, hook and technique. The 2nd day I scored 3 and missed a bunch including a toad who dragged my ass from 120' all the way to 40' FOW only to get down into the rocks and busted me off. Man, that was fun.
I had one bad plunder. I was dragging a plug on my way in for lunch and stopped to give Mark the rest of my bait. I set my brand new Daiwa Tatula into the rod holder and grabbed the bait for Mark. I hear a quick zzzz zzzz and turned around just to see a small splash and the rod was gone, violently ripped right out of my Scotty holder. F%^k!!!!!!! :smt076 Oh well, lesson learned, rod leashes from now on. I had a good cry and went back to fishing :smt022
All in all it was such a great trip with lots of great memories made. Looking forward to getting back on some yellow tail next year... maybe Meheeeko! Thanks Dustin.
Texas thanks for driving, you rock bro! As you can see he stayed well hydrated on the trip! :smt044 :smt044

I made a fun little video from our short dive on the 2nd day! We pretty much had rock bottom and 30 + foot vis at every spot up until we moved here so we didn't dive the best spot but we found a few rock piles in the shallows and tried to find rocks out deeper but it was all sand! Had a lot of fun diving with Nick and Dennis!Either a little too much, or not nearly enough video....of Nick's butt.
