So, not to gloat, I had a big- for- me fish to keep cool and stuck it in my Prowler hatch, but worried about it until I got it on ice. Also, I did not enjoy the cleanup of the inside of the yak.
I've mooned over the fish bag GWKC has, looks like just the ticket, but walking through OSH this a.m. I saw this foil-backed bubble wrap, Reflectix, I guess for air ducts,  2ft wide, $1.19/ft and bought 9 ft of it (1 lb), folded it over at 4 ft, 1 ft left for top flap and double  edge on non-flap side, a little sticky velcro for closer, taped the sides up, and sewed up some old awning material I had for a bag with drawstring to put the cooler in so the fish doesn't slide out the side past defective reflective tape as I put it in.
Also bought a couple of feet of "Cryopak Flexible Ice Blanket" at Longs to throw in there (1lb).
Now that I'm all set, I probably won't see another big fish this season to test it on.  Worst case, I've got some more lightwieght air pockets inside the hatch in case of swamping.
I've thought about pulling an O'Neill and making some leg warmers out of Reflectix, but I'm afraid they'd find me floating head down if things went wrong!

Tom congrats again on your fish.

tempting fate, I tossed a he-uge blue-ice pack into my hatch today. It's like 14" by 18" by 2".
I kept my bait on top of it and it stayed nice and cold. I'm sure it
would have been great for keeping a fish cool.  had I been able to land mine...  :smt011

you could get one of those blue ice packs and toss it in your fish bag, I think it would work great!

ChuckE, you should bring some kind of cooler/fish bag thing for baja! with water @ 80 degrees, it makes
sense to have some kind of fish storage ready. Here, it's not imperative, but
I think you almost have to have some kind of cool fish storage for summer baja.

Won't that react with seawater? You start making hydrogen gas in your yak and touch a spark from the electrical,
Ka-Bloowe!
