My son and I have been kayak fishing for 3 years now. Mostly Central Coast area. I grew up fishing but stopped when I moved to Cali from Alaska. (Fishing was a little boring here). Anyway, my boy ran across some old pics and told me he wanted to go fishing so we went to a local lake a few times. I was bored but he had a great time so we kept going. Then he and my wife gave me a guided ocean kayak fishing trip for father's day. The addiction set in pretty quick. Im sure my wife is kicking herself for that one. Anyway, we are having a blast. This summer we spent three weeks camping at MDO, Morro, San Simeon and Big Sur. Had a great time and met some great guys from the CCKF site. We are currently planning next summers trip and I am researching launch sites/camping heading north this time (From Fresno). I am looking for relatively easy launches (we have a jackson big tuna tandem which is a tank) with nearby camping.  Was thinking of starting somewhere north of San Fran and moving north to somewhere near the border.  Also would like launches that are well used. We had no problem finding fishing buddies at MDO, Cayucos and Leffingwell but there was no one to head out with in Big Sur. (Went out of Limekiln I think, Wiiiicked shore break).  We stayed close to shore and had no luck because we didn't have a fish finder yet and I wasn't really comfortable with no one else out there. Anyway, any info you guys could send my way would be much appreciated. I searched launch sites on this forum but not much came up and then I noticed I have to post an Intro before I can access the whole site so here it is. Hope to see you otw soon. Stay safe.

And a tad more north is Van Damme SP, Russian Gulch SP, Caspar, Noyo with a couple lauch spots. Those are all easily launched from.  Farther N is Shelter Cove and NCKA member loletaeric guides up there also if interested.

Just make sure your plans are made when rock fish or salmon are open and you will find others willing to join you.

We don't want you to get bored  up here so maybe come during high winds.  Not advised but would be more exciting.

For Camping and launching lookup Stillwater Cove, in Sonoma County,  and Salt Point State park. Also Van Damme and Russian Gulch state park,  Some of the best for family camping/kayak fishing.

You'll need to post 10 times before having access to member's only fishing reports.

I'd be stoked to guide you guys at Shelter Cove or other Humboldt spots, and you may want to consider coming to Gimme Shelter Ninth Annual Kayakfishing Tournament at Shelter Cove on May 16th, 2015 - thread going up soon for that event, and you can search the Fishing Events, Tournaments and Trips section for threads on the past events.  Just click on "Replies/Views" twice and you'll find all the GS threads just below the pinned threads.
