Going to Shelter for the first time.  What general areas would you look at for Salmon, Lings, and other Rockfish?

Alcim11 at Shelter Cove Salmon can be caught between the green and red buoy. Most rock fish can be caught between them as well and shallower or on the inside towards land. I have only been down there 4-5X but have done very well. Close to the red buoy on the south there is a nice kelp bed that I have also done well at. Hope this helps

North along the hotels up to black sands beach just past the north end of the airport is rocky and holds lots of fish.  Other than that, there are pinnicles all over the place you just have to find them.

If trolling salmon between the buoys or out of the launch be careful of the reefs that come up and steal salmon setups.

Don't cut the wash rocks just south of the lighthouse.  Give that area a wide berth, they can break in there at any time.

The few times I've fished there were for rockfish, and I did really well fishing along the kelp beds just south of Abalone Point (near the northwestern part of the "head").  There seems to be a ton of lings out there this year too.

+1000.  If you choose to paddle north, make a wiiide arc around any washrocks you see around the southern part of the Cove.  Waves will break out of nowhere in that area, so play it safe and get into deep water before turning and heading north.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

Hang by the red can for all species.  Mooch herring or just troll.
