there are pics here that override that one.......sad indeed, but what can be done?

i know he would agree, if it had to be removed.

that's how i saw it.

Someone may have tried to write another's name Over it, but only got around to erasing Mooch's name before getting caught by someone. Possible explanation?

That beautiful piece of art has been face lifted a couple times over the years.

While most of the replies to this thread focus on the state of enhancing/protection of the painting on the bridge, I have heard numerous complaints from several people - both local Mendocino Coast residents and visiting campers - regarding what they feel is outright vandalism. Who comes to a campground along the beautiful Albion River packing spray paint? How would THEY like it if we went to their community and tagged their walls? Etc., etc.
The Albion Bridge has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places through the efforts of local citizens who regard the bridge as the town's jewel. So it comes as no surprise that graffiti on the bridge has become offensive and disrespectful. It is even sadder to realize that visitors from an organized group annually plan the painting a part of their ritual with the result of making the area look like something one would see in an inner city environment.
No one in Albion knew Mooch or knows why he has to be memorialized. However, some wonder if he was such a unique and special individual to be honored, would he have wanted to be remembered in this context?

Wasn't it originally written in charcoal?

When did it become permanent?

I apologize, I have to admit that I did not consider that it was vandalism, I only considered my feelings about my passed friend and wished that memorial to be there always.

With that description by paddler, I can now see how it may seem to the residents and other visitors.

I prefer that heart and tag to plain gray concrete, but it is not my decision.

Paddler comes in and first post brings it up with a pic that is sure to draw an emotional response, waits, and second post drops truth to power.  That's cool man.

We owe them a clean-up and an apology.
