Speaking of Guitarzan the Hot Dog Man. This man among men took orders over the radio and I 'll be damned if he didnt bring us a hot lunch on the water. HOORAY FOR BEN!

Then yea it looked real nice and mellow most of the time until............

Then the best fisherperson besides Saltykitty was................

Speaking of pussies, I left early.  But I saw this on the way home.

Thanks for the hook-up Eric B. The fish were thgere at around 80ft and not biting. There was a bass tourney going on and even the bassmasters couldnt scratch up fish so I didnt feel too bad. Mickfish, you are a crack up as usual.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that was there.  Naoaki and I didn't catch anything, but we definitely enjoyed your company.

I got to see the hatchery for the first time, so that was nice.  Got to watch some interesting fish behavior first hand.  The trout were spawning and it was cool watching the females make a nest and the males fighting over her.  I've never seen soooo many fish in the river before.  I was inching to grab my fishing pole and catch a couple.  I promise I would have put them back. :smt003

As soon as we got to the boat ramp and started to unload, it started to pour.  I thought about not going out on the water at all cuz I didn't want to be out in the rain.  Good thing I changed my mind, because other wise I would have missed out on the huge bald eagle that was enjoying the spoils of his catch in a tree right in front of us.  And I would have missed out on Mooch trying to get its attention.

We weren't planning on staying....didn't know if I would be able to handle the cold...so we didn't bring anything, but everyone was nice enough to invite us over to the camp ground with them for dinner.  The food was super good and we had a great time around the camp fire.  Thank you so much and we owe you one!  We regretted not bring camping gear just in case, but next time we will plan on staying for sure and we will bring some yummy food to share with everyone.

Good seeing everyone again and meeting some new people.  Mooch we are going to miss you! :smt006

Funny Thing....Chuck spotted the shroom and I was reaching out to touch it when he blurted "HEY"! I jerked my hand back like it was a snake or something...Chuck got a good laugh out of it.
I carried my radio around in the hills when I was hiking solo and was able to pick up you guys on the water...sounded like a lot of fun was happening. Back at camp the food was off the hook! Wish I could have stayed longer....

EK got it right, its a lion's mane.  I used to find these up in Washington in the cascades along with another similiar mushroom that grows on dead or downed trees, the bear's head mushroom.  My wife and I loved to cook these with scrambled eggs, just cook a little slower to cook off excess water.  Another great way to cook is to add to stir fry in chunks.  You can marinade these if you want as well.

One bonus about finding one of these, they usually grow back every year in the same spot.  Nice find in Sonoma County.

Lotsa bs'n, chillin', eatin', laughin', drinkin', huntin', hikin', fishin'.... it was the SNAPS!!
Memorable lines, "Hey Blondie, want a beer?"
Many thanks to Andy for providing the shelter from the rain, the fire pit, and tables.
Next stop on the FTMT (Farewell To Mooch Tour)..... Clear Lake!

I made a last minute drive up for the night on Saturday. Didn't end up paddling but got a lot of good hang time with the crew that was there & got the Mooch his AK swag.
The hatchery was a great stop before the drive home.

excellent way to shake off the cabin fever!

This was definitely a fun day!  Got to meet a few more NCKA'ers.., watch an eagle taunt us with his catch.. troll through a mix of rain and dead flat misty calm.. hard to beat a day like that!

Mike, that sinker dropper is the best, not to mention far cheaper than the standard barrel type.   I am  ordering some today!

i got there on Sat morn and the crew was just gathering up to take off to the water. It was kinda raining, so i took my time(an unusual task for me) By the time we got to the launch, the rain had passed and it was nice to be on the water. I saw one fish on my FF at 30'down and it did not want my offering of a dropshotted worm. I hit the whole dam and then the area to the left of it. Every point and cove was sonared at the depth of 30-40 ft. = I HATE THAT LAKE!  :smt013
If it were not for by best buddies and my need to hang out in the cold, rain?, i may have just made up a reason to stay home&dry, but my wife to me to MAN-UP and get out there with the crew......SOiDID! :smt003
When we were OTW and getting pelted for that 15min, i just thought about the drought and how much this little bit of rain was not gonna upset me.
The BaldEagles were the hilite of the wkend, along with AlHobies'DumpCake!!

Had a great time hangin with the crew. In honor of Mooch we had to endure the rain but the food made up for the rainy conditions. Sounds like I was the only one to spot a wild boar by the side of the road Saturday morning but I didn't step on the gas hard enough to make a kill (oh well). I also saw someone harassing a bald eagle with sardines. Too bad they only bite on crappies.

It's such a pretty lake, and the misty clouds accentuate it.

The highlight for me was definitely the hatchery...  I could have fed those little fish all day, and the monsters at the ladder/glide were amazing.

Also Andy's grill...  once the onion hits hot oil the drool starts flowin.

And we saw the sturgeon!

It was so much fun hiking the hills, checking out pig sign that I'm setting a goal to go pig hunting next year.

So I get there a day early (I thought it was Friday already but it was only Thursday...according to the rest of the world :smt013). I can only blame my addiction to NCKA "fish n' chills"  :smt002 As soon I get to the camp grounds, I was greeted by men in yellow suits cleaning up debri (the outsourcing of work to local repeat offenders). I made my round and did not see any vehicles with kayaks on top.....in fact, I did not see any vehicles at all :smt009. It was noon and so I waited for another hour till I made a call. No reception  :BangHead: I drive a few miles down towards the overpass and as I was listening o the weather report, and I hear "Thursday"  :smt118 . I get some signal and make the embarrasing call to Eric B.
"Hey Eric.....guess where I'm at?"  :smt087

Anyway, there was no way I was going back so I made camp, had some hot soup and did some scouting around. Saw a sign  by the porto potties about mountain lion sightings  :cat:  so I head back to base camp and "arm" my self. Saw a tent spike and turned it into a home made prison shank. I figured that if I get mauled to death during my walk about, I'd leave that cat with a hole some where in it's body :smt065 It's just the warrior in me  :smt002

My Thursday pics....

.......more fish porn at the Hatchery (I could have spent the entire day watching these beautifull creatures swim stream side  :smt007)

*most of the steelhead we saw spawning by the stream were at the 8-10 pound range but seeing the sturgeon swimming below the bridge on the big pond was an eye opener (camera battery died - no pics  :smt013 )

Many thanks to groovey good bye gifts that I got from my brows = you know who you are  :smt008 Never a dull moment with da weekend crew. Like Juan had mentioned, there were too many "moments" that will always be remembered   :smt044 ...all of which I will treasure and happily think back to when I leave for Alaska. Mooch,
Sorry I couldn't make it. Scheduled to work all weekend... Thought about you guys up there. Sure wish I was up there too.  I asked Patrick to pass along a hello for me. Hope ya got it. Those bald eagles are going to become hohum to ya up there in Alaska. They call em "Alaskan Seagulls" up there. Hang out at the fish cleaning stations "moochin" scraps... :smt002 Good luck up there. I'm sure you'll be checking in from time to time. Going to the land of "catchin'" instead of fishin'....We'll miss ya. Yer gonna get spoiled... :smt002
Ben,
enjoy that Lion's mane. they are alot like tofu. You can do pretty much anything with them and they take on the flavors you add. They have a real firm texture, a lot like chicken. One of my favs. This has been a hell of a year for all shrooms. Nice to see there are still some nice lion's manes around.
Mike,
love that pic of the steelie along the rock. Classic! Looks like the lake is all filled back up to recreational level  :smt023 I'm sure Mendo is filling fast too.  :smt038

That was quite a kitty there also. The runoff sure gets them fired up for sure.
Looks like another great hook up. And a desearving send off.

Hopefully I can catch a future tour date. CL sounds great, as I've never fished it and it would hopefully offer up a chance to kick it with Mooch and Da Spidey!!

:smt010  Mooch, I hope you realize the ONLY thing that would have (And untimely did) kept me from going to this bash was that ugly four letter work everybody has to do (work) Lousy timing on my former employee part for calling when they did.
Beyond getting work, I would have gone and brought my skirt steaks!  Thanks to all of you for posting pictures, (Truly hate you all now for making me suffer even more from Oregon)  After looking at those "On the water" shots, I can close my eyes and just imagine me sitting on my OB (Getting skunked again) getting soaked, rocking gently while trolling, listening to radio chatter of someone hooking up, or thinking what lure to use now?  :smt010 :smt044

Oh BTW Ben that damn thing looks like a fuzzy dog chew toy!

Well, I'm sorry I had to miss it.   :smt013 GD job!  (It couldn't have waited 1 month more?) Oh well, mortgage & bills cable & internet will remain on now. (Important things)

Mooch your presence will be missed at future Future fish & chills, but then, we'll have someone to blame when the bites off, or the weather turns, basically anything!  I suspect blame will be placed on you ! :smt044

I'm glad to have met you, and feel privileged to have shared water with you!

Take care buddy!

There most likely won't be a weekend event.  I believe Fishin-Jay mentioned a day trip but don't know if he'll be able to pull it off as he'll soon be leaving the state for awhile.

I saw the pig near NO NAME FLAT. It was on the left side of the road while I was driving up the hill before the yellow bridge.
