Fishing wasn't too slow for me, or my buddy who I was fishing with, we both had 2nd place fish... however I was fishing north of natural bridges area... hence my 1:30 late check in... wind wasn't cooperating too well, but awesome WSB!!! Great to see him redeem himself! It was good meeting some of you, for the 5 secs I was there...

Looking forward towards next years event. Bushy I liked the time of year for the event, maybe a couple weeks sooner next year? Thanks again for putting on a great show.

Congrats Trav!

Thanks everyone for your praise, it was a great day.

Bushy wants a "blow by blow" so here it is:

I arrived outside the Mile Buoy as the sky was getting light. I quickly jigged up some nicely sized mackerel and sent one to the bottom, and another ten feet off the bottom. The drift started to take me deeper so I made sure my bait was still right on the bottom, seconds later my brand new rod/reel started dancing, that was about 7:15. I set the hook and held on for the ride. (last week I lost a wsb at the boat because of a second rod in the water, so I promptly cut my second line.)

The fish was pissed off to say the least. It towed me all over the place, taking so much line.
Every time I gained some line the fish would run again, I lost count at seven runs. It was a total war of attrition, but I was worried that the fish was tiring me out, and not the other way around.

I became aware of how far it towed me, I was close to the lane and in maybe 90-100 feet of water. As it towed me close to a rental boat I asked the angler what time it was, he said 8:23, then asked if I had a ling cod on...

About another ten minutes passed when I began to gain line on the fish, and I finally got color. I tried to stay calm when I saw how big it was. It was spent, but I have a back track record with my "end game" so I was very cautious. I stabbed that son of a bitch and hoisted it onto my yak. After the clip was in I let out a holler and began paddling for the harbor. There is many a slip between a cup and a lip, so I didnt want to mess around. The only time I stopped paddling was to bash it in the head when it began to twitch. What a rush, I was overdosing on adrenaline. SO HYPED. It was such a relief when I had the fish on dry land.

So thats the it, thats the story. I feel very grateful, to the fish, to the sea, to all my friends and family who put up with my shit. Thanks everyone. Hope to see you in the water soon!
