Hello all,
I'll be camping and fishing tomorrow 7/1 into Sunday on Tomales Bay. Had the rest of my group bail so thought I'd extend an invitation to anyone that might want to join. Sorry for the last minute post. If there's anybody else that'll already be out there let's meet up. Cheers and happy 4th weekend.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Slow crabbing at Doran
« on: November 05, 2022, 09:47:01 PM »
Pulled out two keepers at Doran today after scoring a last minute campsite a few days ago. Of all the other kayakers I talked to on the water and snare group from shore, not a single person had pulled up a Dungeness crab. Was told one tall tale from a guy that heard from another guy of a kayak crabber that pulled his limit on his first pull. Only people that had good numbers were people on boats going 100+ feet deep. Anybody else have luck out there?

General Fishing Tips / Tangled 3-way halibut rig
« on: June 06, 2022, 05:38:40 PM »
Hello all,

I thought somebody might have some advice since I can't seem to nail this one down. I keep getting tangled up while trolling my 3-way rig and was wondering if it could be due to too much line out or possibly too much/too little weight weight? It seems that the lines of the rig tangle up onto the braided line. I've been using a 7' ugly stick tiger ml with 40 lb braid to the rig with a swivel in between. Using 8 or 10 oz lead balls. I'd like to not go through three tangled rigs every time out if possible haha. Thank you.

General Fishing Tips / Early season Tomales tips?
« on: March 16, 2022, 05:36:56 PM »
Hello,

I recently have the privilege of working on Tomales bay and plan on bringing my kayak with me on Fridays to fish after work. I know it is still early for T bay but was wondering if anybody had early season success in the past in the inner bay vs outer bay? Trying to decide between Marconi vs Miller launch. Thank you. FYI, water temperature is still at 51 degrees so not there yet temperature-wise.

General Talk / Lost hoop net-Doran
« on: December 05, 2021, 09:29:48 AM »
Hello,

A friend of mine borrowing my hoop net flipped and lost my crab ambush hoop ring. Was hoping anybody at Doran coming up could be on the lookout in case it pops up. It has a green, red and white buoy with my goID and phone number (415)794-xxxx. Thank you in advance.

For Sale / Sold! Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game 2
« on: June 28, 2021, 06:11:42 PM »
Hello,

After taking a deal I couldn't refuse to go to the dark side, I am selling my ocean kayak gig game 2. Good kayak for fishing, crabbing, and camping. Comes in Giants camo if taking it to McCovey Cove. This is a newer model that comes with a rudder, rod holders, anchor trolley, scotty cup holder, new style seat, gear tracks, click and seal hatches. This kayak has plenty of storage and is great for fishing and kayak camping. It is very stable. Kayak cart and paddle included. I believe the model year is 2017 so comes with the newer style seat and fishing and storage add ons. Posted on craigslist for $1200 but $900 here. Thanks.

Ocean Kayaks / 2017 Big Game 2 Rudder
« on: November 24, 2020, 09:29:08 AM »
Hello,

After searching the ocean kayak site it looks like they are out of stock of rudder kits that would fit my Big Game 2. I was interested to see if anybody had experience with any aftermarket rudder kits and if they fit these kayaks. Thanks guys.

Jackson Kayak / Jackson Kraken 13.5 long term opinions?
« on: August 29, 2020, 06:17:19 PM »
Hello all,

I was looking into purchasing my first kayak and have plans to looks at a Jackson Kraken 13.5. Knowing it is a few years old now and out of production, I was wondering, for any of you that own them, what are your opinions on them after having them several years? I appreciate any advice. For reference, I will be fishing the Sonoma coast and dropping crab pots. I am 5'9 and 155 lbs. Thank you.

Hello,

I am new to the kayak fishing game. I've been interested in getting into it for some time and am looking for a decent starter kayak to get me on the water. My friends are convinced that its pedal drive or die. I'm not going to make that a deal breaker since my budget probably doesn't allow for it. I'm probably at a $1200 ceiling. I'm looking for something that can handle getting onto the Sonoma/Marin coast for rockfish and crabbing. If anybody is looking to get rid of their old setup or has something laying around let me know. Thanks in advance, I've already learned quite a bit by going through here and am looking forward putting it on the water. Thank you very much.

General Talk / Spacing between roof racks for kayak
« on: August 24, 2020, 02:32:16 PM »
Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before but after searching through here I couldn't find anything that seemed to answer this or if I'm over-thinking this to begin with. I have a Nissan Frontier king cab pickup and recently got a good deal on some Thule roof racks which I installed on my roof. Before I go out and buy kayak holder additions (which itself is a whole other question on what kind of support is best) to the rack, is 30" enough space between the bars to adequately support a 12' or 13' kayak? I was worried about the stability with a shorter distance between the racks. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Introductions / Hello from Petaluma
« on: August 19, 2020, 09:14:07 AM »
Hello fellow members,

:smt006 Just wanted to introduce myself being a new member here. I've recently been interested in kayak fishing around the Sonoma coast here after fishing from the rocks for years and seeing my friends with kayaks consistently out fish me haha. I have gotten some safety gear (PFD, wet suit, radio, whistle) as that has been available but finding a kayak has been another story. Just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to learning from the wealth of knowledge here and hopefully seeing some of you out on the water. One more thing I wanted to add. I have a collection of my grandfather's old Penn senators ranging from 3/0 to 6/0. Does anybody know of a good place to get those cleaned up and gone over to use to fish? Thought it would be cool to catch some fish from my grandfather's old reels. Thank you very much.
