FFS you people are tedious.

I started with an old necky dolphin, then that OK before the prowler,  then prowler, eventually to an adventure, then AI, then a motor on the AI v2.  I sometimes used the motor on the AI (for really long days with shifty wind), then a 17 foot cc, now a 20 foot cc

AI is a boat...a Hella fun one, but a boat
Kayak with a motor, a boat. Sorry

Don't kid yourself that you are kayaking anymore once that motor goes on

The adventure of it all is still there in a motor kayak, being close to the water, feeling small and exposed. That part is why I have stuck with CCs and smallish boats.

Spent an hour or so talking to Bear yesterday about Keith...pretty funny stories. One that got me was that he and Gloria took one vacation in their 30+ years of marriage, rest of the time he was at the bait shop.

Dude.
San Francisco is northern california...take it from a born and bred San Franciscan. Northern Californians are the ones whose water all gets shipped south to grow grass and fill pools in the fucking desert.   :smt003

This group is NorCal kayak anglers

Don't know who Northern California kayak anglers are, don't care what Google says.

Great person.  Have not seen him for years, as I don’t seem to fish that area much anymore.   Used to launch my 14 Valco there for short run.   Now with a 21’ I can launch cheaper at Richmond, saves $26 bridge toll.

Loch lomond is 40 bucks now!
Makes me glad I've got dry storage there, so launching included in monthly fee

I spent a lot of time in that shop, since 2000 when i moved back to marin. I worked near the civic center and would fish on lunch off the levee after grabbing a sandwich or get bait from him and make a quick sturgeon run. Always had to spend a few minutes getting a fishing report.  He could be a surly guy but had a heart of gold.

Years ago Wizard and I ( long time local marin fisher) were headed out in his boat for sturgeon, after getting bait Wizard's boat wouldn't restart. Keith didnt even hestitate, just said, "what are you standing around for? take my boat and go catch some sturgeon."

My daughter was probably 3ish, when we came in and he saw she was fascinated by Nasty and Nasty Jr sitting on the bait tanks.  He picked her up, put a grass shrimp in her little fingers and helped her to feed Nasty. Never failed to ask about her after that when i'd visit.

I only got to fish with him once. on his boat.  He and Rico (who did many of the drawings in the shop and turns out is a neighbor) invited me out, just a few days after I was weight bearing after breaking my pelvis.
They spent the entire afternoon razzing the new, young guy that could barely get in the boat.  We caught stripers off rocks inon the channel side I didn't even know were there, and trolled the brickyard for more.

The guy was a legend who did an amazing amount for our fishery and bay, and had an impact on a lot of young guys like me.

he will be missed.

Was at spinnaker last night for a work event, and was pretty clear herring were moving back and forth between margaritaville and spinnaker.

I've pretty much stopped using bait and just use swimbaits, with the rare exception one or two times a year. Could easily see dropping the bait...weird in saltwater though.

Two fish is plenty, maybe even make it 24 inches as 22 is barely a couple tacos, by 24 they are starting to thicken a bit. And 24 is way fing easier for my brain to remember.  Though I never bother to keep anything that is even close to having to measure, and still get plenty

General Talk / Re: Need recommendations on buying an enclosed cargo trailer
« on: December 11, 2023, 04:37:00 AM »
The biggest challenge with the highlander will be getting the 7 pin set up. Etrailer has kits, that are most,y plug and play, but you will still need to run a power wire for the trailers brakes (which technically you will need since it is a camper), but practically can skip.

I towed the mtb teams 6x12 cargo trailer filled with crap and water with our old highlander with ease. The trailers themselves are light. You do need to watch how you load them, need that weight centered over axle, etc

I've got a skydio 2 and a hover x1.

The hover is basically a selfish drone abit bigger than palm sized. It doesn't have collision avoidance, but can follow, and do a lot of other preprogrammed flights. Manual flying is shockingly easy. Gets about 15 to 20 min per battery.
Launch, let it do its thing, then put your ha d under it and it'll land on it. No idea weather it would land on a rolling hand on a yak.

Skydio has collision and all kinds of amazing features. When on an automated flight it's basically start it and forget it until you want it to land. Manual flight is also easy with the collision avoidance, it doesn't usually see branches and stuff, so likely would not see fishing rods.would definitely land on a yak, can land on my boat. Again 15 to 20 for the battery (v1), and a bit longer for the v2 battery

12
I seem to recall that the real difference was on the receiver end, which is what made the v2 drum eo much larger. Bearings and such were different.
Mind you this is all based on how shocked I was when I went from v1 to v2,, so take that for what you will
