This came up at work and also on another post, and I thought with all the diversity of NCKA it might make for a great discussion.

So here it is ... I'll start
My family is of Hawaiian decent, and the tree goes way back in Hawaiian history. My parents were both born on the Islands as Hawaiians and became American citizens as Hawaii became a state. All my grand parents were born on the Islands, and my Grandfather on my fathers side became famous as a ukulele virtuoso http://www.ukulele.org/?Inductees:1997-1998:Ernest_Kaai
Further back was my Great Great Grandmother who was one of the last Queens of Hawaii.
I am proud to say that I am over 80% Hawaiian blood.

So there it is,
What's your heritage? ... Where Ya From?

Post up ... let us know a little about you and your family

Euro-mutt.
Mostly Northern English Isles on mother's side: Welsh, Irish, Scottish.
Father's side: Dutch, German, French, Corsican, and likely more.
Van Arsdales have been in North America a looooong time, more so on the East Coast.

On my bear side its mostly nortth american grizzly, with a hint of panda.  On the pig branch it's a lot of eurasion boar but the rest has been lost to bad record keeping.  My man side is mostly Scots irish and english ,and a bit of russian.  My irish / english main has been in america since well before the revolution, mainly from the mountains of west virginia.  We had soldiers on both sides of the civil war.  I have an old bible from a relative who carried it in the war and took notes in it.  I think history is really cool, good post.

How far we've come; there was a time when you would have been an outcast. Now you are welcomed openly!

I haven't done the research to check the relationship but, c'mon, my dad & grandfather are both named Harry Van Arsdale:

Both of my parents/grandparents were born in the Philippines, I think there is a bit of Portugese in our blood but not much.
My grandfather was the president of the large Filipino community in the Stockton, CA area in the 50's and 60's.

Eric, that was cool when I asked if you were related to Ernest, I was reading up on the history of the Uke and saw that last name and thought - Hmmm...
I'm really into playing the Uke these days - it's taking over my life LOL! So, totally cool someone I know is related to Uke royalty! You should start playing one.

I had a great great etc sign the Declaration of Independence. In the movie The Patriot with Mel Gibson there was a scene at a party where a boat blew up in a harbor. That party was at the Middleton Plantation. Middleton was the signer. That plantation is in a book of historic places in the US. Scotch Irish on my dads side. Pretty much a mutt on my moms side with some American Indian. Not sure right now what tribe. Born and raised in Cali.

Berta is of Scandinavian decent on her fathers side. Okie and cherokee on her moms. Not sure of any history there.

Born in a small village outside of London England.  Came to America on board the Queen Mary (Yep, the one that's a tourist attraction in Long Beach).  My father's side of the family is all English and somehow related to the Livingstons of "Dr. Livingston, I presume" fame.  My mother's side of the family is English,  Spanish and Norwegian.  My grandmother's maiden name was Fernandez and she always claimed to be Castillian.  Her married name, Southwick was taken by her and her Norwegian husband when they arrived in the village of Southwick, England.
