It’s very slow right now on the lower sac. I’d avoid this Labor Day weekend as it’ll be a cluster of boaters from rio vista to Sac.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Palomar vs Uni
« on: August 14, 2020, 07:32:36 AM »
I use to tie the Palomar wrong years back and was losing fish on the hook set on sturgeon. Would put the loop over the tag end and it would cut itself on a hard hook set.  I corrected my mistake and no more popped knots on the hook set ! I only use the palomar on braid and never failed on a fish since. I use barbless circle hooks on Dino’s now and just let them hang themselves in heavy current.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Trout trolling help

Just keep trying and something will work. This is why it’s called fishing and not catching. Just keep grinding and never give up!

You need to fish the north side along Sherman. The bass are in shallow chasing bait around Sherman. I’d throw a big swim bait and If it’s flat calm a big top water lure. The chatter bait will just get you dinks and maybe a black bass here and there.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Benicia fishing advice
« on: September 08, 2019, 07:50:02 AM »
Thinking of hitting Benicia tomorrow, as everywhere else is blown out. Any recent reports or advice? Are apex or brads cut plugs effective there? 1st time there for me & my buddy, planning on trolling some spinners & spoons, any advice is appreciated.
I bet it all works but I tend to lean towards what they’re using on shore.  Spinners, chrome or chartreuse, two rods if you have the stamp, 2 fish limit, no size requirement?  Trebles and barbs ok...stay out of casting range if shore guys... :smt006

You need to be on the east side of the Benicia bridge for 2 rods. The Benicia bridge is the 2 rod border for boats.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Alright you heavy lead fisherman, give me a pole

I use a 8’6” okuma celilo heavy action for 360 dodger fishing. Less than $60 and has perfect action using 8-12oz. I’d go with the Xheavy for 12-16oz. Only difference between the 2 actions is the back bone. Both have the same noodle tip.

I’d fish somewhere else. Everything within 20miles of FranksTract will be bombarded by the bass boats.

Recipes / Re: Favorite leftovers?
« on: July 30, 2019, 01:51:45 PM »
If you have leftover baked salmon it makes for a killer salmon salad. I like it better than tuna for making sandwiches. I’m the main one eating seafood in my house so when I bake a whole fillet I have more than half left that I’ll break down and make salmon salad. Great on crackers and for making sandwiches.

For Sale / Re: Daiwa LEXA-HD300HS-P On Sale
« on: July 26, 2019, 08:32:06 AM »
American legacy fishing had the lexa HD 300 for $139 during the 4th of July. $169 for the 400. I got the 300XS 8.1:1 for salmon on the river this season. I should’ve bought 2 at the $139 price!  They sold out in one day on the 300XS.

I was in Tahoe area last week.  Boat inspection station in Meyers said that my Outback didn't need an inspection or anything special for lake Tahoe.  There are already some aquatic invasive species (AIS) present in Tahoe.  The guy seemed pretty junior, so I can't promise he had his story straight.

I had him give my kayak a 140 degree washing since I was heading to Fallen Leaf lake which is AIS free.  Got a little slip of paper with my license plate number on it since the 'yak doesn't have a registration number.  The whole thing was pretty easy.

No fish for me on Tahoe (tried for kokes off of Kiva beach).  A few small trout on Fallen Leaf lake.

The AIS he was probably referring to were the bass and bluegills which thrive in Tahoe now. The bass are all spawning right now as no one was able to hook them on their beds in the keys.  My uncle said there were 5-6# bass bedding everywhere. FnG has no plans of getting rid of the bass n bluegills since they’ve already spread into the main lake.
