General Talk / Re: Thinkin' of goin' solar..
« on: August 02, 2015, 07:17:34 PM »
This is a great thread is wish I saw it 2 months ago. Basically all the research I have done I could have got in this thread. Solar makes sense for me also buy not rent. I'm re-roofing prior to I stalling the system and my roofer is going to set all of my stand offs in the roofing. I'm going to install the panels on a snapnrack system myself. Payback without considering PGE rate hikes is just under 5 years.

Keys:
- make sure a roofer looks at your roof prior to letting solar be installed so much more expensive if you need a new roof in 5 years.
- Cal fire setback 36" from ridge on 3 sides of gable roof and 2 sides of hip.

Great info Jerry thanks.

Safety First / Boat Safety course
« on: June 02, 2015, 10:20:04 PM »
Anyone know of a boat safety/boat Captains course. I'd be interested in learning how to safely operate a boat as we as learn about tides, swells and other dangers of being in the ocean.

How much are the 6 packs? What are good outfits?

How many would a full charter take and what would they run?

Can anyone recommend a salmon charter that would be good to take you a bunch of the guys from work?

Anything in the Bay Area coming up? East bay or peninsula? Just picked up the 5 chirp and would love to actually know how to use it.

we sell so many Ugly Stik Tigers w/Penn Fierce 5000 it`s not even funny...good  set up w/o breaking the bank.. I know one very very good kayak angler that uses the Ugly Stik with a Penn Senator  as his go to rig for Sturgeon..
You working at OPS?

The penn battle is on sale @ American fishing legacy its 59.99 I think

they do, good heads up. They don't have the 5000 only the 4000 and the 6000. Is the 4000 enough is the 6000 to much/heavy.

Thanks for all the input, I took what I saw here, plus read a bunch of old rigging set up threads that everyone had previously asked similar questions.

I picked up the Pflueger President (6930)/Cabela's Tourney Trail Split Grip Spinning Combo (6'-6" ML) on sale for $69.98.

Still looking at getting a salt set up for cod/salmon/halibut. I've narrowed it to the Penn Fierce or Battle either in a combo set up or with a 7' Ugly Stik Tiger

My questions are is the Ugly Stik Tiger much better that the combo Penn rod you would get with the fierce or the battle? And would the 5000 be the best size?

Places to Launch and Camp / Angle Island Beach Landing
« on: March 12, 2015, 12:42:11 PM »
Has anyone ever gone out to angel island? I have a zodiac and was thinking of taking the wife out for the day. Wanted to see where the best place to launch from was and if there was a good spot that I could just land on the beach.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Cabela's Fish Eagle Rods
« on: March 12, 2015, 12:39:31 PM »
Cabela's has their fish eagle series of rods all 50% off right now. Anyone had any experience with them? Look specifically at the spinning and salmon/steelhead rods.
