Here's some pics of a doe that came running full speed down the side of an almost verticle cliff and straight into the crashing surf of the Pacific. It ran right between my friend and I who were standing maybe 30 feet from each other.
The first thing I did was look for a big rock or stick because I honestly thought that a mountain lion was going to be right behind it.
Needless to say, the doe got f***ed up big time in the surf and was battered on the rocks multiple times before finally making it out.

On a recent trip up to the Klamath a mama bear approached my kayak while I was hugging the shore as there was a boat right behind me fighting a salmon....way cool !!! If you look close at the start of the video you can spot the baby bear just above it's mama and then it takes off through the grass just above her....smart cub.

Been there, done that... and it really is no fun what-so-ever. I will never forget the knowledge of what it feels like to be the prey and not the hunter.

Did you feel threatened? I used to see them every so often while running (yes I used to do that) in the AR canyon. For the most part, they just took a quick look and moved on.

I was hiking and stumbled on where mama had her cubs hidden, she flanked around beside me and stared wholes in me. Followed me for a ways as well... she was pissed and had every right to be though I meant no harm. Just in the wrong place at the right time I guess. You are right though... more often than not, you never even know they were there.

While fishing for salmon on the American river today with Mr. Matt. I had this young spike buck cross the river. Good swimmer made it across in no time.

It's still a trip getting on a yak. When people ask me what I did during the weekend I tell them I went kayaking, but words really cant explain it. I get tired trying to explain sometimes. It takes one that has been there to really understand. This was one of those moments where I wish that person that asks what I did on the weekend or "I should try that out sometime" was actually there. Then again maybe it wouldn't be as special. Cheers!

I enjoyed this gallery! Photography is one of my hobbies. I cheated though...these were from my boat at Lake Berryessa. Pretty cool day. While running into a cove to fish, I pushed up a bunch of coots. A peregrine swooped in a grabbed one. He took it to shore, where a red tail came in and stole it, which in turn lost it to a golden eagle, and ultimately the coyote scared them all off and ran away with the prize. Pretty neat experience and I was lucky to have my camera handy.
