Headed out this am at 4:30 5/3 and went all the way south to Morey's point.  Bait is thick (smelt) the stripers are thicker.  Didn't pick up any today but those who did got into 12-20 pounders.  I had to leave at 6am to go to work but at about 5:55 three monsters were picked up.  It was frustrating to leave when the action sped up. 4 were caught in the time I was there (three the last five minutes.)  1 side note was that yesterday at 430 am two guys spent an hour catching a releasing all they could handle.  Could be a banner year.

I can't wait to make my first launch at linda mar although I am a little nervous. I need to pick up a wet suit soon.

Jason, I'm glad you found our site.

Where is Morey's Point and where do you park and launch?

I think you could launch at Rockaway beach about 1/2 mile south.  I would be up for it tomorrow if you wanted to go.  Call me tonight.  I used to fish there all the time as a kid.  I used to park and walk out the trail and climb down the cliff.  You park by the Moose Lodge.  It is a pretty long walk.  The parking at Rockaway should be a lot easier.  I live in Santa Rosa so it is a little drive for me to get there.  Let me know what you think.

That's funny -- my bro and I used to fish that area as well.  My mom keeps sending me emails about her walks on Ocean and Funston beach with the dog.
"Birds going crazy just outside surf.  Guy with 3 foot striper. Another guy with smaller striper."

Drives me nuts!

I would rather launch and land at Linda Mar.  The break at Rockaway seems much larger than the south end of LM.  I'm guessing it is about a 15 minute paddle to reach the point btwn LM and Rockaway.

I think I will hit Mendo with Sean in the am for stripers and then bolt over to the coast for a fish accupuncture session.  Good luck if you go.  Let us know how it goes.

The south end of Rockaway should be easy enough when it's calm (as it is now), though admittedly I've not done it. Apparently Rockaway was closed down Saturday due to GWS sighting.

After all of the talk of big stripers at Rockaway and Linda Mar beachs, I couldn't help but re-post this photo I took of the 30 and 20 lb stripers caught by Tim Taylor on 7/11/04....

He caught them trolling for salmon in the middle of Linda Mar cove.  To give you some size perspective.... Tim plays college football and that's a legal salmon between those two monster stripers.

Either of those stripers would probably win our current jackpot.

I made my rounds along the coast after work last night. Went over to Linda Mar and drove up to the look-out point on the South side. No birds working. Spotted a few shore fishermen on the North side. Rockaway beach was elbow to elbow fishing right before sunset. I did not see anyone catch.....couldn't stick around any longer cause I could smell my Ono Hawaiian Grill dinner cooking  :smt007

The trash bin at the cleaning station by the HMB launch ramp was full of salmon heads and some sand dabs as well.
