We (Jeff & I) had snow on the way up on Wed.  Left San Jose around 11:30am.  Need chains around Kirkwood.

Got up to Topaz around 7:30pm.  Stopped by and talked to a few of Jeff's buddies in Jackson.

Got 3 rainbows (13-14") on Thurs and Jeff got the same.  We were trolling flashers w/worms.  These fish were Cut-bows and nice and pink on the inside.  I got 3 more on Fri and Jeff release all his.  We had to eat all the trout because the opener of Bridgeport was on Sat and we did not want to explain to Fish & Game why we had trout before the lake opened.

Got 4 trout (same size) on Sat at Bridgeport.  John (Jeff's buddy) got 4 and Jeff got 2 fish.

Got a 21" on Sun.  John got a small one and Jeff got 2.

There was a $20,000 fish release at one of about 5 lakes around that area.  Don't know if any one got it.  There were some $100 tags also.

Topaz weather was real nice.  But, the first night at Bridgeport was cold and icy.  Second night it rain.

I used to fish topaz every year around january 1st. First day you would troll from the ramp up in to the river, push pole your boat over the sand bank where the river dumps in. Then motor up river as far as you can go at the bridge. Dump a 5lb bag of dog food and then leave and head back to the main lake and troll with black and gold rapalas. Usually off the lake by 12 because the bite would always die, go to the bar and drink cranberry and vodka until about 3. Then go back out and fish till dusk. Then you'd head to the casino for dinner and back to the motel there at the casino. The next day you would head up river and fish worms and marshmellows for decent holdovers and plants and then would back troll lures for some HUGE browns =).  See the logic was: the planters liked the dog food, ie planter food, the browns would come to eat the planters...=)  (disclaimer, I have only heard of people doing this, because chumming in fresh water is not legal. but then again is it really chumming if you do it the day before? )

Now let me tell you my experience about bridgeport lake fishing.  Mud yuck and lots of algae on the lines. Never caught anything bigger than a hot dog.

Walker burger is a good place to eat on your way from topaz to bridgeport.  Virginia lakes also kicks ass for alper trout too!

Bridgeport was nice.  Same size fish as Topaz.  Except for the 21".  They tasted better from Bridgeport.  More paler but the think the insect hatch and also, the fish have been planted there for awhile without anyone fishing the lake for awhile.

Topaz the casino was nice...but...only a few good looking women there.  The food was good after eating fish for two days.

Most of the Big brown cam out of Lower and Upper Twin.  9 to 10 lbs.  State Record came out of there but a long time ago...Bridgeport had one that went 3 1/2.
