I'm new to kayak fishing so I'm actively searching for places to splash the yak. First I was wondering about putting in somewhere in Walnut Grove as I used to troll for salmon there. As I'm reading posts here I started to think of the current. Would it be too much for a yak and an old guy up there? What about putting in at Whimpy's and going up river in the Mokelumne to start out with then the return trip is down stream. Another place I'm interested in is Montezuma Slough. I grew up in Suisun and used to fish Grizzly Island all the time. If you go all the way out to the end where the road hits the slough, make a left and go about three quarters of a mile there was an old boat ramp. I think duck hunters used it. I don't live over there any more so if any of you folks know if this ramp is still usable I'd sure like to know. Google Earth shows it with a downed tree on it but this pic must be old.

I just launched at new Hope and rode the current and outgoing tide to beaver slough.  Came back at slack tide but current persisted. Wasn’t too bad but kicked a Hobie the two miles back to new hope. (Right next to wimpy’s). I think it would be worthwhile to see if there’s a way to check flows down the Moke (I can’t spell it right) before you get to far down stream so you know what you’re getting into.

I think for sure if I launch there I would go up stream first. I did try to launch there since this post but it was packed with no place to park. Salmon season. I went from there to that little river access area on Georgiana Slough and didn't go there either.  If I was younger with a lighter yak I might.  Ended up splashing at B&W and went up Georgiana for a skunk.  Now I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about the kayak launch area at Big Break. Looks pretty good online.  I've had the outback out 5 times now, with 3 fish in the box, all but one being in lakes.  I'm really wanting to catch a striper on this thing...

No I haven't. Have you? I just looked at it on google earth and it does look pretty good. Can't find a website yet on the ramp though.

I've decided to make a recon run to Big Break. Gonna check out a couple other places too. My concern is dragging the yak all the way there and having the water blocked off by hyacinth. I took my old boat to the end of 8 Mile Rd. once and you could barely navigate at all. Big Break does look clear on Google earth but ya just never know. Looks free too...

I was there about a year ago.  Cost ~$8 to launch from the boat ramp.  Well worth the trip if you are looking for bass. https://paradisemarina.com/launching/

and a helpful link from Headwaters Kayak  https://headwaterskayak.com/fly-fishing-the-delta-part-3-places-to-fish-by-headwaters-fly-shop/

I went to Big Break yesterday and definitely will take the yak there. Think I'll pay 10 bucks at the ramp though as opposed to pulling it a quarter mile. It is paved all the way though. On my way I stopped at Bethany I believe it's called. Small body of water. Talked to a guy and he said they just had brought a load of fish caught in the pumps there and released them a couple days ago. Saw one nice striper come out so far. Yak is loaded and I'm on my way...

Well I didn't even get a hit, but I did enjoy a nice ride on glass. Calm as could be. Talked to a few other fishermen and they did concur there are stripers in there. I only marked a few and most of them were by the ramp. On the plus side I was having trouble with my GPS not leaving a trail. I had one bar on my phone so I emailed the Lowrance help desk. Ten minutes later I got a reply that solved my problem. Pretty cool.
