Looks like it's not very rock garden friendly so I'll have to use this as "proof" that I need to keep my current kayak AND have a new one too :smt044

thats what I thought, then I paddled one last weekend.  the boat is ABS with an epoxy coat and seems to be very very tough, and repairable to boot. :)

it was fast for a big boat, super light (obscenely light) and roomy.  the seat was higher than my Ride and gave a great view into the water as well.

thats my short review.

I like it a lot.

Take a close look at how they build these yaks.   Like everything Eddyline makes,,, top quality and lightweight.   These don't even begin to compare  to any of the roto-molded kayaks out there .    I'm  surprised they can offer them at that low of a price....  Dammit!  :smt002
Sure you pay a premium for the light weight, but that will seem like a really small price to pay after you throw your back out  loading a 78 lb kayak onto your car after a long day of fishing.
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

$1679 with seat. There will be some options that I don't have a break down on yet.
Interesting price being $400 more the 12 ft. model.  Its definitely high end materials and quality craftsmanship. Looks like Eddyline is targeting the above middle class kayak angler with deeper pockets.  To be honest I got a brand new 2012 Revo for less than that retail price. But again these are different boat types.

Mel, the 12' will actually be going up $100 this year. So it will be about a $300 difference. I thought I read somewhere that the material they use has gone up in price. Its hard to compare an Eddyline Kayak with a Hobie. I used to think the same thing; for the price why not get a Hobie. Well they are two completely different types of kayaks.

Some of the pluses for me are the weight and the speed. The material they use will not oil can, it can be left out in the sun since it has a built in UV protectant. I can't wait to take the 14' out for a spin, I love the 12' Caribbean and believe that the 14' can only be better.

The Eddylines are for people who love to paddle and want a light weight fishing boat. They are a dream to paddle. I think the 14' with rod pod and rudder will be the best all around paddle fishing kayak made. Is it worth the cost? I think it is. Once you take a good look at one and paddle it, I am sure there will be plenty of them out there next year. Hobies have distinct advantages for sure but for long portages, surf launch or slogging through the kelp, this would be my choice over the revo. Trolling, strong wind or current, the revo gets the nod. One last advantage is that nobody is going to say that it is not a kayak.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

I used to paddle a 14' Eddyline Merlin, and it was my choice of any SIK for the 2-4 hour trips from SC harbor. I'm saving my pennies and will most likely buy the 14' Caribbean once I paddle it. There's just lots to like, and I'm ready for more of a "real" touring kayak feel in my fishing yak. I'll keep my T140 for the rough rocks etc.

An optional console cover allows the paddler to use the hatch as a rod pod, with the cover protecting the reels and whatever else during surf launching and landing.

Do you need to buy the rod pod cover extra and cut it open yourself?
