While the real story of why it looks familiar may never be known, there might not be any story at all.

At the last trade show in SLC, one of the Ocean Kayak reps pointed to it and asked me "So, how much is a new scupper pro these days?"  The RTM Tempo is often compared to a hybrid of the 2 scupper models.  RTM manufactured OK for a decade to Europe, the similartity is no secret.

Cutting my teeth in the original Scupper, I really appreciate the Tempo.  It had been been one of RTM's best selling solos for paddling and fishing kayak in the SE for many years.

Disco and Midway, more traditional bones in SOT models.  With the Disco, you trade initial stabilty for lightning fast speed.  Midway is part of the DAG kayak line (also RTM) and while fishable, it's not really a factor in the fishing line right now.  Both of these models are for anglers well under 200#.   The Tempo is a great fishing kayak, costs about $900 bucks and fits anglers comfortably to about 200#.

I have a Tempo Angler and have found it to be the fastest plastic SOT I have paddled. I love it.
You just have to get over the initial feeling of 'tippiness' but once you have been on the water for 10 minutes you will love it.
It has been said in the UK that the Scupper Pro/Tempo are 'paddlers kayaks'. One of our guys has circumnavigated the Isle Of Wight in 13hrs 45 mins for the 59.5 miles. That was with a force five wind in his face for part of the journey.
An exceptional time for a SOT when you look at the records times for traditional sea kayaks.

So if you are looking for a fast trip to your fishing grounds this kayak will suit you. It handles the rough stuff too this same guy launches and anchors in seas many of us would turn away from.

Story?  I think a lot of people know the story.  But like you said, it really isn't a story at all, well, at least not in any dramatic sort of way.

How/Where is the Tempo different than a Scupper Pro?

The Tempo is the identical hull design as the first gen SP.  The second gen had an improvement by adding a way to attach a rudder.  Or so I've been told.

The list is for traditional sea kayaks. In the UK many  sit in kayakers frown upon the paddlers of plastic kayaks especially sit on tops.
Although when Richi's trip was posted on a Sea kayak forum many impartial paddlers gave him due respect. He was actually in the Scupper Pro.

As for differences I think they are mainly cosmetic. If you read through a review I put on my site there are comments from S Pro owners and the, until recently. importer of OK into the UK. Hopefully this will help explain some of the differences.
