Title: Cambria Slam Down III - Important info by Rhyak page 10
Post by: Derrick A2H on May 19, 2014, 10:12:04 AM
Registration will be 100$ day of the captains meeting for any late comers and lolly gaggers and you will not receive a captains bag. There will be a raffle with a Hobie outback, Malibu kayak, and much much more.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to HOW. Tickets will be 5$ each so make sure to bring cash!

CSD II Video thanks to Fisheye for being on set.
http://youtu.be/jcr_8vK38Wg
Pay attention to the sets. There were plenty of times it was calm to land during this large uncalled for swell. Don't just rush the beach if for some reason these conditions rise again. Watch the waves go between larger sets and time your landing.  Also allow time for others to land and move unlike some people last year...

Well, the 2 tournies are 400 miles away from each other. And CSD is the only tourney the CenCal guys host, compared to NorCal's 14 tournies. So I'm sure both will be well-attended and successful. And it means even less competition at the 7th annual MBK tourney in Monterey :-)

Yes, good point.

But I doubt that you need to worry about competition, Pat.

Well said lol its not the first and wont be the last mutli tourneys will land on the same weekend

:smt010 But I really wanted to fish CSD III. My yak is built for that launch and landing.  :smt010

Possible two other tournies that day...

Very cool, makes me wonder how many total combined anglers will be competing in Cali that day. Now we just a Socal tourney  :smt044

I can see this tournament to be one that should be every bit as good as albion and shelter cove. I just had my first NCKA event it was great. The pot luck had something for everybody. One guy made Pizzas on a webber. they were great.
Title: Re: Cambria Slam Down III. September 27, 2014
Post by: Sin Coast on July 29, 2014, 02:28:32 PM
...except you can't roll your yak to the launch, Jeff.
and the tournament isn't comprised of 200 people that know each other,
and the launch spot isn't meant to accommodate a ton of yak anglers.
But I hope it grows into an event that rivals Gimme Shelter or Albion.

Hey Derrick or Ryan, the registration forms should probably be posted here too. I still need to print & send mine.

Rhyak is Just setting a date at this point. Hope to keep this simpler then last year just for logistics with his new job and possible busy Summer.

SLAM DOWN III ~~~ September 27th, 2014

The thread can be followed on the cckf page. We will try to post on both forums.

Derrick, so whats the deal with Cambria3? Is it still on? I cant seem to find anything on it. let me know. me and my fam are looking forward to it again, too fun last year. Hope all is well brotha!

Leffingwell achieved Bean Hollow status last year as far as sharkiness. San Simeon might be a better venue for a tourney but the whole area is sharky because of Piedras Blancas. We don't hold a tourney anymore anywhere on the SMC for a reason. Just saying, potential liability is significant. I'll be down there this weekend and fishing from shore or boat only.

Where's the best place to RV camp for the event?  I'm trying to put together a "Loose Screws" group to make the trip.  We will probably need 3 or 4 RV sites.  Full Hook-ups would be great but not required.

Yeah not sure why. This is by far the biggest one out here from what I hear. Been wanting to fish cambria and should be interesting as I have never been here.

Will be looking for some tips where to fish so I can at least bring something decent to the weight in.

Welcome to the competition. I alway wonder why there isn't a forum or tournaments in SOCAL.

Yep the parking lot at the small park has a gate I think it will be locked till 7 am. but I'm not sure about that. Make sure you bring wheels if you have them. Get there before the tourist, Oh wait you are a tourist!

For us possible first timers, can someone explain where the launch is so I can... 1) See where it is to go scout it this weekend, and 2) Start panning my "day of" route/hike?

Using Google Earth, and I think I found it, but if someone can let me know which hotel it is by, or north or south end etc.

Thank you!

It costs $40 to enter before 9/1. Then 50 bucks to enter after 9/1?! Or 100 bucks to enter after 9/19?! That's crazy talk unless it includes camping. Does it at least include a shirt?

The shirts are an option durning registration. Price hike is caused by the city of cambria they are inforcing on Rhyak extremely hard this year. Its insane to say the least. To play the game you have to play by their rules.

Reserving a camp site only insures u get a site. Numbers are issues at the ranger check in.

thanks I just got off the phone with a campground person 805-927-2035---she just had current water restrictions and camping rules-had not heard of our event
she also said  to call @ 1-800-444-7275 ............ca. parks reservation  line

called the 800 and found out

spots are still available

dogs on leash only ,but ok,at both san simion and washburn ( which one are you guys ?) and never allowed on beach ,must sleep inside with owners not outside...no water no dump stations or showers, outhouses on site...20 bucks or so a night...lots of spots open as of today

edit: and dogs must be attended at all times -so not leaving her  to take snooze in the van while we kayak -which would be just fine with my beagle,is gonna be tricky...get ticket stuff

Washburn is normally the primitive sites on top of the hill but due to the stage 3 drought the whole camp ground is. We will be in the San simeon park. They arent aware because our event is taking part outside of the camp ground. We just recommend camping there because its only like 2miles from the launch site.

the gal on the phone thinks it is 8 people to a campsite so If/when I get a site I'll let folks know if we have room still...
like wise  if folks from nor cal have/get sites/maybe post it and we can split or bring supplies for the campsite....

Sorry about the absence been a busy summer and an even busier August have not seen my home since July been visiting the Northern part of the state on a road trip putting out fires. Just got back down south and hoping to get off work by the next week at some point and put some more time into it and get all other final details worked out and finished.

Regardless thanks to Derrick for grabbing the bull by the horns on this one.

See you all there...

Tight Lines,

Lets be honest it is rarely like that. But that being said, the hurricane in Baja may create a south swell. But the Slam down is a long ways off.

very cool swag stuff...awesome

turns out we cancelled our 'lodging' in favor of spending that money on needed camping gear-tent-and stuff
This will be our first camp/event   ... we are already having a blast outfitting our travel van and taking back seast out for gear,shopping...we are for sure bringing way to much stuff for a simple fri-sat night camp in san simion...but you should see how much junk I paddle out on the kayak with me.. :smt003

this is fun fun fun...campground is way better than motel imo

Hello all Cambria Slam Down Anglers…

So with only a couple of days left until the CSD III event, it is apparent that there will be a high volume of registered anglers on tournament day.  We have discussed with a few members and long time anglers of CCKF that there must be a plan in place to help the tournament day run a little bit smoother. We have concluded that the best course of action with this high number is to allow for one additional launching location.

Launch Location
The two launch locations for the tournament will be San Simeon Cove and Leffingwell Landing. For those not familiar with the two separate locations, they are 6 miles apart with San Simeon being located North of Leffingwell. These will be the only approved launch locations and this will lighten the load on the beach at Leffingwell somewhat. On tournament morning, there will be two separate areas to grab ID markers for this year’s event. You may not enter any fish into the tournament without having your ID marker included in the photo, therefore it is very important that you obtain this ID marker on the day of the event.
One will be located on the north end of the beach at Leffingwell Landing and the other area will be located on a bench on the beach in San Simeon. There will be someone handing out the ID markers at both locations so be sure to find them before you launch so that you may obtain your ID marker. For those launching at San Simeon beach, launch time will be 6:30 with weigh in at Leffingwell no later than 2:30. For those launching at Leffingwell, launch time will be 6:45 with a weigh in at Leffingwell no later than 2:30. The extra 15 minutes allotted for those anglers launching at San Simeon is due to the travel time it takes to get from San Simeon to Leffingwell for weigh in. Please be clear, there will be no entries allowed after the 2:30 weigh in time.

Parking Area
I have included an image of an area that we must keep clear for the local rescue boat. This area is needed for a quick response to the area and will be marked off so please do not move cones or any other items blocking areas for parking of responders.

Captains Meeting at 6:30pm on 9/26/14
The Captains meeting will be located in the same location as last year for those that attended last year and for those not aware of that location it is in the San Simeon campground. When you enter into the facilities, there is a hill to the right. At the bottom of that hill is a little amphitheater which will be the location of the meeting. Captain’s bags will be handed out at the Captain’s meeting along with CSD clothing. We will also review launching and landing safety.  Please be sure to slow down and time your landings. There is no rush to get through that surf zone. If it’s slow and thought out, we will all be much safer.

POTLUCK and Trash starting at 4pm
Potluck will be located on the hill above the launch area. If you plan on sticking around for the potluck and prize ceremony, please bring your favorite dish to share with everyone. We will be having a fish fry so a fillet or two for the fryer is always welcomed.
We have arranged for a dumpster to be placed in the parking area for trash, as well as any fish cleaning. If you choose to clean your fish at Leffingwell, please bag the fish scraps before throwing away. If you choose to throw fish scraps back in the water that is fine as well. Please DO NO USE the parks 50 gallon trash cans for fish. We will be providing a trash can, just please empty every so often. There will be bags provided as well for the trash can. Please use the dumpster that will be in the parking area and the trash cans provided around that same area.  We need to leave that area as clean as when we arrived on Saturday morning.
Please check out the Potluck thread on the CCKF forum for further information. The more guys that contribute, the better it will be. Last year’s was great so let’s do that again!
http://centralcoastkayakfishing.com/cckf/index.php?topic=3139.0 (http://centralcoastkayakfishing.com/cckf/index.php?topic=3139.0)

Weigh In

Weigh in will be starting at 12:30 pm.  The final weigh in time is 2:30pm. There will not be any participants included in the tournament if you arrive after 2:30 pm, no exceptions. Please be prompt.
All anglers please conserve as much as possible and use Catch Picture Release (CPR). If you choose to take a photo of your fish to catch and release, be sure it is a good photo for viewing. We will have a laptop to use to upload your CPR photos to better assist with verifying length of the fish, so if you are taking a photo of your fish it would be helpful for you to bring your camera and camera cable to upload the photo. You must also include the CSD III ID marker in the picture. If it is not shown in the picture, your fish will not be included in the final weigh in.

CCKF Milk Crate

The way it works is, supply a new and unused lure for the crate and it gets raffled off. If you purchase raffle tickets, you have a chance to win the crate full of lures. The crate is a YakAttack Blackpak.

Raffle Tickets

Raffle tickets will be sold at camp and at the captains meeting. Tickets will be $5 each and all money raised goes towards Hero’s on the Water. You will also have a chance to win some of our awesome prizes!

Angler Safety
Please use safe boating at all times. Be considerate of other paddlers and power boaters at the launch and on the water. Please wheel your kayak when using the launch ramp in order to keep it clear as much as possible. During competition, each contestant is required to comply with USCG regulations. In addition, participants must wear a PFD at all times while competing in the event and must be in possession of a sounding device. Tournament days may be shortened or canceled due to unsafe weather or water conditions. The decision to shorten or to cancel will be left totally to the discretion of the tournament director. A 4-hour period shall constitute a day of fishing. Be aware of the tides, winds and swell forecasts prior to launching. Know the launch and landing area. Please be patient when coming in. There is always time to look over your shoulder and time it, especially at Leffingwell.
Also there will be a safety boat available on the water just use channel 69 to call for help. This is for emergency use, so please use if you need help or assistance.
Swell and wind seems to not be in our favor again this year, but about the same as last year with this one being more of a northern swell so the launch may be more protected then last but we will see on Saturday about that. Stay safe and only do what you feel comfortable with, there are plenty of chances to fish other days and still win prizes even without getting on the water. So come on out and enjoy the coast with us.

LAST but not LEAST
Come on down to the campgrounds in the evening and check out Joe Koenig & The Homewreckers. They have some great new tunes that are definitely worth your time!
https://joekoenig.bandcamp.com/ (https://joekoenig.bandcamp.com/)

Here are a couple of videos to check out
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8QTH0wAlNA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8QTH0wAlNA)
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZHJdT6ttw8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZHJdT6ttw8)

Although the show at the campground will be super mellow… acoustic style…

Look forward to meeting a lot of new people and seeing some good friends.
See you all on Friday or Saturday.
Tight Lines,
Ryan Howell

I can't make the Captain's meeting.  What should I do early Saturday?

Yep, Captains bags will be available at the Leffingwell launch on Saturday morning and make sure to grab a CSDIII ID Marker which is a floating keychain that will be available that morning at both launch locations.

Yes, can someone explain the purpose of the captains meeting? I have work until late friday and can not make the tournament until saturday morning. Info much appreciated. Thanks.

Captains meeting is for collection of captains bags as well as go over safety of the area, I can catch anyone that misses up on Saturday morning on the beach.

longest fish ncka insiders group pool???

say 10$ each for biggest fish of any type by length???..after weigh in on sat ----nor cal side bet group ,huddle up----like at the sand crab classic????
I'm in

anyone want to play?

or 5$....whatever folks want
like this day

EDIT_________________________________-------------------------------------------------______________________
an inside ncka side bet would be hard to confirm late bets, if no one had internet down there ,so--- if folks did chime in and pool start today/tonight... should we close the bet @ like fri 10 a.m so that those folks heading down to pre camp will know the members -total-in the pool and avoid confusion????

great fishing with Nor cal ...I went out in water I had never fished...without any idea what I'd find...saw swells..paddled more towards the big swell o.t.w and watched for any bumps on my FF....6 lings ---3 in 3 drops at first....was practicing my acceptance speech...while I waited for the monster ling to jump in my boat ....not to be  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Falcon swooped down to take fish as we left san simion cove around sunrise...unreal day....super duper wind and swell...got pretty scary .....

WHOA, where to begin. Let me just first say that Ryan, his wife, Derrick, and all the contributions and support from the sponsors really made this event Top Notch! It was even better than last! Huge success on there part, from beginning to end.

Ocean conditions wasn't that bad early but then it got snotty fast by 11.  I had my game plan and stuck exactly to it. Fished the same exact spots as last year and it amazingly and unbelievably paid off! All shallow again! I probably went the furthest and had the most mileage tho, which goes to show, hard work does pay off! I'm still in shock. There was some nice fish brought in. Cambria definitely has some good and lots of fish around. Lots nice reds, lings, and cabs were brought in...Speaking of cabs, one of our own beloved Ahull had the biggest cab but unfortunately he's just Andy! What an Ahull. :smt005 I only had 7 bites in which 2 were lings, 2 were cabs, 1 red, 1 China, and one nice fish that got off.

This year's CSD was the best because I got to spend it with my family, Christina, my son, dad, and family from socal, but also with lots of my NCKA family who was all close in camp. Big thanks to Andy, Cochino, Jesse beerhunter, Daniel Dpshim, Frank Ghost, bunny, Martin, Dave and wife, and all my other ncka brothers for sharing and making this weekend so much fun as it was. Of course, I'm looking forward to it again next year. 2 PETE BABY, yeaaaaaaa! :headbang:

So Can I come to the Berryessa Salmon Slam I have two questions. First one do you have an idea when it will be? Second: How much of a handicap do I get? Since we don't have lake salmon down here.  :smt044

Your NCKA bro, so of course you can come. Dates, I have no clue yet. As far as handicapps, sure you can launch 5 minutes early! :-) lol
