I posted a picture of my rod storage setup I made for my Revo-13 and I got a lot of people asking how I made the fluted ends on the rod holders.
First off, I do not claim to be the person who came up with the idea, I actually saw someone else post it here a few years back, but can't find it. So for anyone interested, here is how I did it, step by step.

1. Get a beer bottle .... I prefer a long neck.
2. Empty said bottle, but don't waste it ;0)
3. Get a heat gun .... Don't need anything fancy.
4. Apply heat to outside (approx 1-2 inches of end) of PVC.
5. Also apply heat to inside of PVC.
6. Push heated end of PVC down neck of bottle.
7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 untill desired results are aquired.
8. After results are aquired, hold pressure of PVC against bottle till cool.
*NOTE*
As you release pressure on step 6 the first couple times, it will be normal for PVC to shrink back to towards original shape until cool.
Good luck,
Hope this helps

What kind of beer is best for this?  Is any beer hurt in the process?  What is a PVC? Can I mount this on that awesome deal custom rack?

ps:  Nice instructions, thanks!

For this process, cheaper [emoji481] seems to work the best as you may have to repeat several times to truly get an empty bottle.
PVC (also known as poor man's lumber) is the most utilized material in a man cave ( right up there with duct tape).
Yes,
You can mount these on Annie's rack ... ?
Lol!!!

This method works better if you use new unwasted beer bottle for each pvc flute.

Thanks for the info.

Does the PVC stink when you heat it like that? I always cut it with a chop saw, and even that creates a pretty foul odor.

Haven't noticed any smell, but then again, I tend to spend most of the project time making sure the bottle is empty.

Thanks for the tip. Just finished fluting a rod holder of black ABS pipe. It was a tight fit for the rod butt without the expansion but should be an easier on the water insert now.
